York Revolution News Release
Matt Esquivel clobbered another big homerun, Daryl Harang earned his team-leading ninth win, and the York Revolution won their next-to-last home game of the season, 8-3 over the Long Island Ducks on Tuesday evening at Sovereign Bank Stadium. The Revs will now look to finish with back-to-back wins at home, with Shawn Hedrick starting the huge home finale on Wednesday night at 7 p.m., with the biggest and best Postgame Fireworks Show ever at Sovereign Bank Stadium following the game. Limited tickets are still available.
For the ninth time in the last 10 games, the opponent scored first, as John Pachot smacked a two-run double down the left field line in the second inning, but those were the only two runs allowed by Harang (9-12). He turned in his third consecutive quality start, going 6.0 innings, scattering seven hits, walking only one, and striking out four.
The Revs took the lead for good with a three-run third inning. After the first run scored on an error, Aharon Eggleston tied the game with an RBI fielder's choice. It was his fifth RBI with York, and his third consecutive RBI that has tied a game. Esquivel gave York the 3-2 lead with a sac fly to left.
Matt Padgett made it 4-2 with an RBI single to left field in the sixth, scoring Esquivel from second base.
The Ducks pulled within one on a sac fly from Dennis Donovan in the seventh inning, but were held to just one, partly due to an outstanding throw from Jamar Hill in right field, who uncorked a missile to gun down Eduin Delgado attempting to take third base on a single for the first out of the inning.
Eggleston and Keoni DeRenne (3-for-4) kept the seventh inning alive with back-to-back two-out singles, and Esquivel mashed a three-run homer over the Arch Nemesis to blow it open at 7-3. It was his 21st homerun of the season, moving into a tie for fifth most in the league. Of those 21, 15 have been hit in his last 32 games.
Liu Rodriguez delivered an RBI single up the middle in the eighth for the final run.
Notes: The Revs scored five runs over their final three offensive innings, all scoring with two outs. Esquivel now needs just one homerun in his last five games to tie Nate Espy for second most in a single season in Revs history with 22, and to tie Matt Dryer for second most in club history with 35. Esquivel also collected his club record 20th outfield assist, nailing Johnny Hernandez at home plate attempting to score on a fly ball in the eighth inning. Local star Shawn Hedrick faces Randy Leek in the final home game of the season on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. Gates open at 6 p.m. The regular season wraps up with Fan Appreciation Day at the ballpark, as we salute YOU the fans that make the Revolution the place to be in York!
