Revs Stalled on Saturday Night in Sugar Land

(Sugar Land, Tx.) - The York Revolution saw their first place lead in the Freedom Division shrink on Saturday night, falling to the Sugar Land Skeeters 6-3 in front of 5,400 fans at Constellation Field. The Revs fall to a league-best 28-21, as their lead over Lancaster closes to 1.5 games, and 2.0 games over Sugar Land. York will look to end a three-game skid and avoid a sweep on Sunday evening.
The Revs jumped in front early with a pair of first inning runs. Isaias Tejeda got things going with a one-out single up the middle, extending his hitting streak to 10 consecutive games and notching his second 10-gamer of the season. After a fielder's choice, Telvin Nash roped a two-out single to left. Skeeters starter Parker Frazier appeared to be out of the inning with a ground ball to short, but first baseman Delwyn Young failed to catch the throw from Beamer Weems, as Andres Perez raced home on the error for the game's first run. Keith Castillo followed with an RBI single up the middle for a 2-0 lead.
York starter James Simmons breezed through his first five innings, taking a shutout into the sixth and retiring 10 consecutive hitters at one point early in the game.
Sugar Land broke up the shutout in the sixth as Ricky Hague connected on a first pitch leadoff home run to left. Rene Tosoni followed with a double to left on the next pitch, and Jeremy Barfield then singled to left-center as the Skeeters very quickly set the table to erase York's lead. Young then rolled a soft grounder to second on which Perez made a fine diving stop for the first out, but it brought home Tosoni with the tying run, leveling the score at 2-2.
The Skeeters broke through an inning later, scoring four times with two outs. Johan Limonta slapped a leadoff single to left-center, but reliever Mariel Checo appeared to be headed out of trouble, retiring the next two hitters including a failed bunt from Weems as Castillo made a great throw to second for the first out. Things took a nasty turn for the Revs, however, as Hague attempted to bunt his way on with two outs, and Checo threw errantly to first after slipping on the play. The throw bounced off Hague's leg and down the right field line, allowing Weems to score from first with the go-ahead run. Tosoni then greeted reliever Ron Schreurs with an infield hit, producing another run, and Young later added a two-run single through the right side, giving the Skeeters a sudden 6-2 lead. Young posted three RBI for the second straight night, and now has 11 of his 17 RBI for the season against York.
The Revs had not managed a hit since the first inning before Tejeda double to right-center to lead off the eighth. After advancing on a wild pitch, Tejeda scored on a sac fly by Perez to provide the 6-3 margin.
Singles from Bryan Pounds and Michael Rockett brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth, but Zech Zinicola, filling in for closer Derrick Loop who had pitched each of the previous two nights, struck out the side for his first save of the year.
Sugar Land reliever Robbie Weinhardt (4-3) picked up the win after tossing a perfect seventh, while Checo (3-1) suffered the loss.
