Revs Skid Continues

May 18, 2011 - Atlantic League (AtL)
York Revolution News Release

The York Revolution saw their losing streak reach five consecutive games with a 5-2 loss to the Road Warriors on Wednesday, in front of 4,159 fans on-hand for "Baseball in Education Day" at Sovereign Bank Stadium. The Revs (8-6) will look to snap the skid and grab their first win of the homestand with the finale of the brief two-game set with the Road Warriors on Thursday night at 6:30 p.m.

The Road Warriors scored all five of their runs with one quick outburst in the third inning, as Marcos Cabral drove in the first run on a double to left-center, Danny Gonzalez launched a two-run single off the Arch Nemesis, and Carlos Sosa capped the rally with a two-run homer to right-center. The five runs came on five consecutive hits.

Revs starter Corey Thurman (1-1) rebounded to work two scoreless innings to close his outing, and four Revolution relievers combined to hold the Road Warriors scoreless the rest of the way.

Road Warriors starter Luke Massetti (1-1) allowed just four hits in six shutout innings to earn his first win.

The Revs scored both of their runs off the Road Warriors bullpen. Mark Ori's seventh inning groundout plated James Shanks who had led off with a single, to get York on the board. Juan Martinez doubled to lead off the eighth and scored on Val Majewski's infield single, cutting the deficit to 5-2. But the Revs saw threats in the eighth and ninth innings end with the tying run at the plate both times.

Adam Thomas, a member of the 2007 inaugural Revs club, earned his second save with a scoreless ninth.

Notes: Thurman struck out six and walked none, improving his season totals to 19 strikeouts against only three walks in four starts. his first strikeout in the first inning was the 300th of his Revs career, the first pitcher in team history to achieve that milestone. his second inning of work gave him 400.0 innings pitched for his Revs career, also a franchise first. Shanks (2-for-4) is now 6-for-9 over his last two games. the meeting was the first between the Revs and Road Warriors since 2007. York's bullpen has now worked eight straight scoreless innings, allowing just three hits on that stretch. Scott Rice pitched a scoreless ninth, and has now worked 7.1 shutout innings to begin the season. the Revs turned a season high-tying three double plays. four of the Revs' eight hits were doubles. Matt DeSalvo (0-1) will face Kelvin Villa (0-1) on Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. the game is the first of three "Boomer's Book Club" ticket redemption nights for students who participated in the Revs' reading program this school year.
