New England Revolution News Release
The New England Revolution (12-8-12, 48 pts.) opens its quest for the MLS Cup in the 2006 MLS Cup Playoffs at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 22, when the team travels to play the Chicago Fire (13-11-8, 47 pts.) in the first game of the two-game, total-goals Eastern Conference Semifinal Series. ABC will televise the game live nationally, while WEEI 850 AM (English) and WJDA 1300 AM (Spanish) will carry the game on radio.
The Revs, who boast MLS' best defense and top goalkeeper in Matt Reis, enter the playoffs riding a seven-game unbeaten streak (5-0-2) that helped them earn second place in the Eastern Conference.
The Revs and Fire have played a close series this year, with Chicago holding a slight edge in the four meetings, 2-1-1. The Revolution went 1-0-1 at Toyota Park this year, and is one of only two teams to earn a result in both trips to the Fire's new home this year.
New England has advanced to the last four Eastern Conference Championship Games, twice playing in MLS Cup, including last season in 2005.
Game Two of the Eastern Conference Semifinal Series will be played at the Revolution's Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., on Saturday, Oct. 28, at 7:30 p.m. TV38 will broadcast the deciding game live.
