York Revolution News Release
After an early offensive explosion from both teams, a night-long comeback attempt for the York Revolution fell short again, losing to the Sugar Land Skeeters 7-6 on Wednesday evening in front of 4,529 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium. The Revs have lost back-to-back games to the Skeeters, now 27-5 with professional baseball's best record, and will look to salvage the final game of their homestand on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
Both teams put up four runs in the first inning, before the proceedings calmed down. Sugar Land stormed in front with back-to-back RBI doubles to left by Steve Moss and Josh Pressley, and a two-run triple to left-center by former Revs catcher Travis Scott. The Revs answered back with a two-run homer to left by Brian Burgamy, and a two-run homer to right-center by Cody Johnson, his first with York.
York briefly took the lead in the second inning when Burgamy singled to right field, driving in his third run of the night for a 5-4 lead.
Pressley erased that lead with a homer to left in the top of the third. Adam Godwin added an RBI single to left in the fourth, and Pressley went deep again for his second homer of the night, a solo shot to left-center in the fifth to give Sugar Land a 7-5 lead.
The Revs pulled closer in their half of the fifth as Burgamy led off with a double off the wall in right-center, and Wilson Batista drove a two-out RBI double off the Arch Nemesis in left field, bringing York within 7-6.
The Revs could not make up the difference, however, as Sugar Land's bullpen allowed just one base runner over the final four innings. That came on a one-out double by Batista in the eighth, but Roberto Giron entered to record a pair of strikeouts, stranding Batista as the tying run for the second time. Jason Bergmann set the side down in order in the ninth for the second straight night, logging his eighth save.
Sugar Land starter Bobby Livingston (3-2) hung in for five innings to earn the win, despite allowing six runs.
York 's Brett Tomko (1-4) settled things down after the first inning but took the loss, charged with seven runs in six innings of work.
The Revs bullpen kept things close as well, as Stephen Penney, Michael Wuertz, and Yunior Novoa all worked perfect innings late in the game.
The Revs will send Chris Cody (3-1, 3.89) to the mound against former Revs righty Michael Nix (3-0, 0.99) in Thursday's finale. It is Salute to Veterans Night presented by Military & Commercial Fasteners Corp. Tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
