Ducks Rally Late to Beat Sharks

(Camden, N.J.mden, May 22, 2013) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Camden Riversharks 6-4 on Wednesday night in the third game of a four-game series at Campbell's Field.

Camden opened the scoring in the first inning on RBI singles by Raul Padron and Johnny Drennan. The Ducks grabbed one back when Rian Kiniry singled P.J. Phillips home in the third inning. Camden immediately responded, with Paddy Matera driving in a run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning.

The Ducks cut into the lead in the sixth inning, when Kiniry tripled, and then scored on a wild pickoff throw by Camden catcher Raul Padron. Long Island took the lead in the seventh inning, when pinch-runner Gabe Suarez scored on a dropped third strike, and Dan Lyons knocked a RBI triple to left field. Camden tied the game in the bottom of the inning but the Ducks struck for two in the eighth inning on a Bryant Nelson RBI double to left field and a Ralph Henriquez RBI single to left.

Kiniry, Joash Brodin, and Adam Bailey each notched two hits for the Ducks.

Eric Niesen (1-0) earned the win in relief. Ryan Quigley (1-2) took the loss for Camden. Neither starter factored in the decision. Nick DeBarr threw six innings, giving up four hits and three runs. Riversharks starter Mike McGuire surrendered seven hits, three runs (two earned) in six and two-thirds innings. Leo Rosales threw a scoreless ninth to record his eighth save.

The Ducks wrap up the four-game series against the Riversharks Thursday night. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. from Campbell's Field. Right hander Connor Graham toes the rubber for the Ducks against Riversharks righty Brian Bass. Long Island returns home on Friday, May 24 when they host the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs in the first game of a three-game set. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05. It's "Don't Fry Day" with Skin Cancer Awareness, and the first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Duck Mini Bats, courtesy of Stony Brook Children's Hospital.
