Revs' Mark Mason Named Manager of the Year

(York, Pa.): The Atlantic League of Professional Baseball has announced its post-season all-star selections for 2014. In addition to five players earning All-ALPB honors, York Revolution Manager Mark Mason has been selected as Atlantic League Manager of The Year.
The honor is a career-first for Mason in the Atlantic League - he was 2005 Manager of the Year in the Frontier League. In Mason's five seasons with York, three as pitching coach from 2010 to 2012, he's presided over four playoff teams and two Atlantic League Champions. In his second season as Manager in 2014, he guided the Revolution to a 78-62 record, including a Freedom Division First Half Title to clinch a spot in the Atlantic League playoffs. The 13-win improvement Mason orchestrated was the best turnaround in the ALPB from 2013 to 2014.
Also serving as the organization's leader in player procurement, Mason assembled by far the Atlantic League's most athletic team. York's 188 stolen bases led the circuit by 69 and were the most in the ALPB since 2009. Mason's imprint on the pitching staff remained strong, with the Revolution finishing second in team ERA at 3.44, just shy of league-leading Sugar Land's mark of 3.40. York obliterated the previous club-record for ERA, surpassing the 3.99 mark of the 2012 club.
The transaction which truly established York as a contender in 2014 was Mason's acquisition of outfielder Justin Greene in late May. Despite Greene's late arrival, he was named a First Team Atlantic League All-Star, helping push the Revolution to a first half title and their best overall record since 2012 under Mason's watch. The 78 wins were one short of the best showing in franchise history.
"I'm honored and humbled to have been awarded the 2014 Atlantic League Manager of the Year award. I want to especially thank my coaches, players and medical staff for their effort and support throughout the season," said Mark Mason. "This award is a testament to an outstanding organization."
Mason's honor is the second time in franchise history a Revs skipper has been named Manager of the Year. Andy Etchebarren was honored in 2011.

First Team Selections
OF Justin Greene: After signing with York on May 23, Greene established a new single-season franchise batting record, hitting .358 in 108 games to lead the ALPB by 11 points, the fourth-highest average in league history. Greene became the Revolution single-season batting champ by 19 points, surpassing Ramon Castro's .339 season in 2010 and posted the highest ALPB average since 2007. In a span of five home games from June 28 to July 2, he connected on three leadoff home runs in the bottom of the first inning. Greene slugged .500 and was on base at a .423 clip, and also amassed a 21-game hit streak from August 24 to September 18, tying the longest in the Atlantic League in 2014.
2B Eric Patterson: As he established a new single-season Revolution record for extra-base hits with 67 in 2014, Patterson also stroked 17 triples, establishing a new Atlantic League record. He breezed past the previous record of 13 triples, adding in 15 home runs and 35 doubles. Patterson batted .301, playing in 132 of 140 games. With 23 career triples, he is York's all-time leader as well. Patterson's 86 RBI was good for sixth in the league and he remained a stalwart on defense, committing just seven errors in 2014, shifting between second base and left field.
1B Chad Tracy: Tracy led the Atlantic League with 97 RBI (third-best season in Revs history), and was second in home runs with 23 (tied the fourth-best season in Revs history). His solid .272 average helped him to a .350 on-base percentage, impressive for a power hitter, helped by 63 walks in 133 games. Tracy also slugged .452 in 133 games, adding 16 doubles and two triples.
SS Wilson Valdez: The long-time Major Leaguer provided much needed stability at the shortstop position, while stealing a league-high 55 bases to go with a .292 average. Valdez took the league steals title by nine bases (a Revolution record as well), and also kept runners moving at the plate, leading the league with 20 sacrifices, six more than the runner-up. His 129 base hits in 112 games included five triples and 69 runs scored.
Second Team Selection
LHP Rommie Lewis: Selected as the closer for the second team, Lewis compiled 28 saves to establish a new Revolution single-season record - before August 16. On that date his contract was purchased by the EDA Rhinos of the Chinese Professional Baseball League, and Lewis finished the season on the island of Taiwan. In 46 innings for York in 2014, Lewis allowed just 37 hits, posting a 2.15 ERA. He is also the York Revolution all-time saves leader.
