York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution lost the final game of their road trip, 5-3 at Southern Maryland on Sunday afternoon at Regency Furniture Stadium. The Revs were denied a chance at a third series win in as many tries on their nine-game road swing, losing two of three to the Blue Crabs. The Revs return home to open a six-game homestand on Tuesday evening, beginning with the first of three more against the Crabs at Sovereign Bank Stadium.
Southern Maryland scored a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the second to go on top. Ryan Mulhern reached on an error by James Shanks in left field to start the inning. Cyle Hankerd then reached on a walk to cap a frustrating 10-pitch duel with Revs starter Corey Thurman. Jose Salas grounded into a fielder's choice to first base, but the Revs missed a chance to turn two when Thurman couldn't find the bag covering at first. Alvin Colina followed with a ground ball to first to drive in Mulhern, but the Revs again failed to record an out when Thurman dropped Andy Marte's feed, resulting in an error. A two-out walk to ninth place hitter Wladimir Sutil loaded the bases, and another walk to Sean Smith forced in the second run.
Thurman (4-6) retired seven straight after the walk to Smith, but allowed two more runs in the fifth on an RBI single to center by Renny Osuna, and on a two-out infield single by Mulhern.
Blue Crabs starter Gaby Hernandez (2-8) won his second straight start after losing his first eight decisions of the season. He faced the minimum through 4.1 innings and carried a shutout into the sixth.
The Revs finally got on the board in the top of the sixth as Manny Mayorson led off with a double to left and James Shanks was hit by a pitch to set the table. Eric Patterson then singled to right driving in Mayorson, but was thrown out attempting to stretch his hit into a double. With two outs, Andres Perez cashed in with an RBI single to left, bringing York within 4-2.
The Revs made it a one-run game an inning later, as Salvador Paniagua led off the seventh with a double to left and scored on Mayorson's single to center, but Southern Maryland tacked on an insurance run in the eighth on a two-out RBI single to left by Cesar Nicolas to close out the scoring.
Blue Crabs closer Jim Ed Warden wrapped it up with a scoreless ninth for his 14th save.
The Revs finish their road trip with a 5-4 record, as their six-series unbeaten streak comes to a close. Their five-series road unbeaten streak is also snapped.
First pitch for Tuesday's opener at Sovereign Bank Stadium is set for 6:30 p.m. It is a Fill Your Tummy Tuesday, and tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
