Lancaster Stormers News Release
Butch Hobson wants to win every series. His team is doing just that, at least at home.
Horacio Ramirez fanned nine Long Island Ducks in seven innings on Sunday afternoon, pitching the Lancaster Barnstormers to a 6-4 victory in the rubber game of a three-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
Lancaster is now 7-0-2 in home series this season with a 21-9 overall record.
Ramirez allowed five hits and two runs, both on a two-out homer by Ben Broussard in the sixth. The left-hander walked one and benefitted from a pair of double plays. He finished his day by striking out the side in the top of the seventh inning. The former Atlanta Brave fired only 77 pitches.
The Barnstormers provided Ramirez will all the support he needed in the bottom of the fourth. Jerry Owens banged a single into center, the first hit of the day off Matt Way (2-4). Owens took second on a wild pitch, and Olmo Rosario was hit by a pitch to fill in first. Blake Gailen lined a single into right center to score one and send Rosario to third. Gailen swiped second before Travis Denker roped a double to left, plating two more.
After Daryle Ward flied to center for the first out, the Ducks replaced Way, who had just been reactivated for the start, with Connor Graham. Gustavo Molina extended the inning with a single to center, and Kevin Howard made it 4-0 with a sacrifice fly to center. Singles by Austin Gallagher and Petey Paramore loaded the bases. Jerry Owens, and the Long Island defense, had to wait for play to resume as Graham was forced out of the game by a blister on his right hand. When T.J. Hose was ready, he got Owens to bounce to shortstop Bill Hall up the middle. Hall fumbled the play, allowing the fifth run of the inning to score.
Owens singled home Gallagher with an insurance run in the sixth, but the Ducks rallied against Yoslan Herrera with one out in the eighth. P.J. Phillips beat out an infield single and went to third on Danny Perales double to left center. Josh Barfield singled home one, bringing Broussard to the plate as the potential tying run.
Hobson countered with Ross Peeples, and the Barnstormers' ninth year lefty got a 3-6 double play on his first pitch for a quick exit to the inning, though Perales' run counted with the force play off the board.
Jason Urquidez wrapped up the game with a 1-2-3 ninth for his 11th save in 11 opportunities.
The Barnstormers entertain the Somerset Patriots Monday evening at 7:00. Left-hander Lenny DiNardo (3-4) will make his first appearance since May 29. He will be opposed by right-hander David Harden (7-1). Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; 1600-AM, WPDC; 1390wlan.com or the I Heart Radio cell phone app beginning at 6:45.
