
Blue Crabs Take Advantage Of Revs Early Mistakes, Win 5-3

WALFORF, Md. - The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs held on to a lead which began in the early innings of the ball game today at Regency Furniture Stadium to give Blue Crabs starting pitcher Gabby Hernandaz his second win in as many starts with a 5-3 victory. After capitalizing on two early errors and three walks by the York Revolution the Blue Crabs would never look back as they tallied additional runs in the fifth and eighth innings. The Liberty Division's Long Island Ducks would also tally a loss today to give the Blue Crabs a four-game lead with just 14 games left in the first half of the regular season.
Southern Maryland would cash in on three Revolution walks and two errors to take the 2-0 advantage in the second despite having no hits in the contest. Then in the bottom of the fifth inning Blue Crabs second baseman Wladimir Sutil would finally break-up York starting pitcher Corey Thurman's no-hitter with a lead-off single to start the team's next scoring opportunity. Shortstop Renny Osuna would then single to drive in the Blue Crabs third run of the game followed by designated hitter Ryan Mulhern chipping in a hit and RBI as Osuna would reach home for the 4-0 score in favor of Southern Maryland. A frame later York would tally their first runs of the night off of hits from Eric Patterson and Andres Perez to bring the Revs within two and then inch closer with another run in the seventh. The Blue Crabs would add one last insurance run though compliments of third baseman Cesar Nicolas' liner down third base for the 5-3 score.
UP NEXT - The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs will have an off-day Monday before beginning the second half of back-to-backs verse the York Revolution at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Tuesday. The game slated for 6:30 p.m. will be the final meeting between the two clubs during the first half of the regular season.
