York Revolution News Release

The York Revolution came close but were unable to land the big hit, falling to the Sugar Land Skeeters 4-2 in front of 4,378 fans at Santander Stadium on Thursday evening in the final home game of the season's first half. The Revs will close the half with a weekend trip to Bridgeport, before returning home with a fresh slate to open the second half with a seven-game homestand that begins next Friday.

York grabbed a first inning lead as Shannon Wilkerson drew a leadoff walk, advanced to third on a fielding error by first baseman Delwyn Young, and scored on a sac fly to center by Nick Ferdinand for a 1-0 advantage.

The Revs very nearly broke through in the second. Bryan Pounds and Salvador Paniagua singled with one out, and Wilson Valdez followed with a deep drive to right-center, but center fielder Denny Almonte made a great running grab, crashing into the wall padding to save at least a run.

Revs starter Shawn Hill was an out away from completing four scoreless innings on a night where he made his third consecutive start on short rest, but Johan Limonta drew a two-out walk, advanced on a wild pitch, and scored on a double to left by Kevin Russo, tying the game at 1-1.

York answered in the bottom of the fourth, going back ahead 2-1. Brandon Boggs worked a leadoff walk and Andres Perez singled to left-center. Pounds then drove a ball to deep right-center with Almonte again making a great running grab to deny York of a potential big inning. Boggs advanced to third, however, and scored when Paniagua blooped a fielder's choice into shallow-left, picking up an RBI.

Chris Wallace led off the fifth with a home run to left-center, tying the game at 2-2. It was his eighth home run of the season and fifth against York, three of which have come at Santander Stadium.

The Revs were left wanting in both the fifth and sixth. York left the bases loaded in the fifth when Perez slammed a missile line drive to third, caught by Amadeo Zazueta. Then in the sixth, Pounds singled, advanced on Paniagua's sac bunt, and took third on an error with one out. Zazueta was the culprit again, however, as Valdez laced a laser near the line with the third baseman making a sprawling grab to maintain the 2-2 tie.

York failed to score in the eighth after a leadoff double to left from Boggs. Perez grounded out to first, advancing the go-ahead run to third base with only one out. But after an intentional walk to Pounds, reliever Andrew Johnston (2-0) retired Paniagua on a pop up before receiving a disputed called third strike on Valdez to end the inning.

Young led off the ninth with a bloop single to right, and Joe Benson followed with a seeing-eye single to right that just crept through the infield, setting the table for Sugar Land's winning rally. Limonta grounded to first, advancing both runners to scoring position. After a close ball call on a 2-2 pitch by York closer Josh Judy (2-2), Russo drove a two-run triple to the right field corner, giving the Skeeters the lead and capping a three-RBI night. York relievers had combined to retire the previous 12 hitters before Sugar Land pieced together its ninth inning rally.

Hunter Cervenka finished it with a scoreless ninth for his first save of the season.

Revs lefty Rommie Lewis (4-6, 3.56) will face Bridgeport right-hander D.J. Mitchell (4-4, 2.52) on Friday at 7:05 p.m. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK mobile apps beginning at 6:45 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
