
Southern Maryland Takes Series Fianle From Bluefish

(Bridgeport, CT - July 2, 2015) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (24-43) were defeated by the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (40-27) 7-2 in the final game of a five game set at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Thursday night. The Bluefish were held to just six hits overall.
Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Matt Iannazzo (3-3) suffered the loss, pitching five and one-third innings, allowing three runs on five hits, walking four and striking out six. Southern Maryland Starting Pitcher Brian Baker (4-4) picked up the win, tossing five innings, allowing two runs on four hits, walking one and striking out six.
Bridgeport got on the board first in the bottom of the fourth inning off Baker on and RBI groundout by Jonathan Galvez, scoring Welington Dotel, who doubled with one out, and the 'Fish had the 1-0 lead. Southern Maryland responded right back in the fifth inning off Iannazzo, scoring three unanswered runs to take a 3-1 edge. Anthony Vega's two run opposite field triple brought home Casey Frawley and Tyler Wagner, and the Blue Crabs had their first lead of the night. Vega would later cross the plate on a sacrifice fly by Renny Osuna to double the lead.
The Bluefish got back to within a single run at 3-2 in the sixth inning on an RBI double by John Alonso off reliever Trey Barham, plating Welington Dotel, who led off the inning with a single. Jonathan Galvez followed Alonso with a walk. Bridgeport seemed to be staging a rally as they had the tying run at second base and the go-ahead run at first with nobody out, but Barham was able to put the inning to rest by striking out Jobduan Morales and inducing Andres Rodriguez to ground into an inning ending double play, as Southern Maryland's bullpen held onto the lead and closed the game out to secure the victory for Baker by pitching four scoreless inning, striking out four. Dotel led the way for Bridgeport with three hits.
The Bluefish now welcome in the York Revoultion to the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Friday, July 3rd to open up a three-game Holiday Weekend series, closing out the first half of the regular season. First pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. It will be Biker Rally Night on a Fintastic Friday, with fans getting the chance to win a flatscreen television along with other great prizes in the Two Roads Beer Garden. Bluefish players will be wearing specialty Constitution jerseys in honor of the Fourth of July weekend.
