York Revolution News Release
Every starter had at least one hit as the York Revolution rode their biggest offensive inning in 13 months to a 9-4 victory over the Bridgeport Bluefish on Friday night at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. The Revs will go for the series victory in game two of three on Saturday night.
The breakout performance started from the get-go, as Shannon Wilkerson and Eric Patterson worked walks to begin the game. Bryan Pounds slammed an RBI double off the base of the fence in left-center, driving in the first run. Andres Perez followed with an RBI single to center, giving York a quick 2-0 advantage.
The Revs erupted for seven runs in the third inning, their biggest inning since a nine-run frame at Somerset on June 3, 2014. Patterson legged out an infield single to get things started, and Pounds followed with a walk. With one out, Yeicok Calderon belted an RBI double to right field, giving York a 3-0 lead. Brandon Boggs drew a walk to load the bases, and Luis De La Cruz drove in another run on an infield single. Calderon slipped rounding third and was caught in a rundown for the second out, but it did not derail the makings of the massive onslaught. Alfredo Patino followed with an RBI single to right on an 0-2 pitch, picking up a big hit in his first game with the team. Wilson Valdez then smacked a two-run double to right and Wilkerson applied the exclamation mark with a towering two-run homer down the left field line, giving the Revs a 9-0 lead.
Rommie Lewis (5-6) was the beneficiary on the mound, adding to his team lead in victories as the lefty went 6.1 innings, allowing four runs on nine hits. Two of those runs scored after his exit on a single to center by Jonathan Galvez in the seventh. The other two came in the bottom of the third after a long sit in the dugout during the Revs' offensive outburst. A leadoff walk to Josh Prince and a double by Matt Wessinger set the table. John Alonso drove in the first run on a groundout, and following a disputed ball four call to Galvez, Jobduan Morales lined an RBI single to right-center, cutting the York lead to 9-2 at the time.
Tony Pena finished the seventh with a pair of strikeouts, allowing just one hit. The righty has now struck out four batters in 1.2 innings since joining the Revs.
Mike DeMark and Stephen Penney each fired scoreless innings to close it out.
Bluefish starter D.J. Mitchell (4-5) took the loss, charged with all nine runs on nine hits over five innings. The righty walked a season-high seven batters. He had previously allowed a season-high four runs in a game only twice all year, and was coming off a victory in York in his previous start.
