
Patriots Snap Ducks 17 Game Home Winning Streak with 7-5 Win

Central Islip, NY - The Somerset Patriots (50-18) defeated the Long Island Ducks (44-23) 7-5 Friday evening at Bethpage Ballpark. The Patriots snapped the Ducks 17 game home winning streak which was their longest in franchise history.
In the top of the first inning right fielder Michael Burgess sliced a RBI double while first baseman Mat Gamel poked a RBI single to give Somerset a 2-0 advantage.
Shortstop Dan Lyons clubbed a go ahead three run home run (5) in the bottom of the second inning to put Long Island in front 3-2.
Somerset tallied the equalizer in the ensuing half inning as Burgess ripped a RBI single to make the score 3-3.
Center fielder Vinny Zarrillo recorded his first professional career base hit in the top of the fourth inning as his RBI single gave Somerset a 4-3 lead.
Left fielder Delta Cleary Jr. slapped a RBI single to even the score at 4-4 in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Patriots broke the tie when catcher James Skelton fisted a three RBI double in the top of the eighth inning as Somerset grabbed a 7-4 lead.
Designated hitter Randy Ruiz stroked a RBI single to cut the deficit to 7-5 in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Kyler Newby earned the win (6-2) in relief. J.C. Romero suffered the loss (0-1) in relief. Jon Hunton notched the save (18) pitching the final inning.
