York Revolution News Release
New Britain, Ct. - The York Revolution kicked off a six-game road trip with a convincing 9-2 win over the New Britain Bees on Tuesday evening at New Britain Stadium. The Revs (13-11, 53-41) tie a season-high by climbing to 12 games over the .500 mark while earning their second straight victory.
York jumped ahead in the top of the second as Michael Rockett delivered a two-out RBI single to right-center for the game's first run.
The Bees answered on a sac fly by James Skelton in the bottom of the second, tying the contest at 1-1.
The Revs would take the lead for good in the top of the third as Jared Mitchell slammed a solo home run to right, his fourth long ball in his last six games played.
York then grabbed control, scoring three times with two outs in the fourth. Rockett and Brandon Chaves set the table with singles to start the inning, then with two outs, Joel Guzman drove in a run on an infield single. Andres Perez followed with a two-run double to right-center, giving him 295 RBI in a Revolution uniform and providing his team with a 5-1 lead.
Michael Crouse led off the bottom of the fourth with a home run to left-center, but the Bees would not manage a hit the rest of the night.
York righty James Simmons (8-4) tied a season-high with seven innings, allowing just two runs on five hits while striking out seven to earn the win, retiring the final 10 batters he faced. Scott Rice and Ricardo Gomez finished the night with perfect innings out of the bullpen, as Revolution pitchers combined to set down the last 16 Bees hitters.
The offense was far from finished, as Guzman lined a two-out RBI single to left in the sixth for his league-leading 68th RBI of the year. Rockett (3-for-5) then connected on his second home run of the season, a solo shot that caromed off the top of the left field fence to lead off the eighth as he notched a second straight three-hit game. York provided the finishing touches with two runs in the ninth as Kevin Rivers doubled to right in front of Bryan Pounds who struck an RBI triple off the fence in left-center, and then came home on Keith Castillo's ground out.
York out-hit New Britain 14-5, led by Rockett's 3-for-5 performance. Guzman, Perez, Rivers, and Pounds all notched multi-hit efforts.
Bees righty Kyle Simon (5-5) suffered the loss, charged with five runs (four earned) in his five innings.
Notes: Simmons logged his team-leading 10th quality start of the season, and needed just 90 pitches to work seven innings. He improves to 3-1 with an ERA of 1.00 against New Britain. Rivers (2-for-4) now has 15 multi-hit games in his first 30 games played with York, while 19 of his 38 hits with the Revolution have gone for extra bases. Rockett is now 13-for-31 (.419) over his last eight games, and is batting .316 since June 9. The Revs are now 10-4 against the Bees this season. York has won back-to-back road games for the fifth time this season. Revs righty Ty'Relle Harris (2-4, 4.50) squares off with Bees lefty Jarret Leverett (3-4, 2.55) in Wednesday's game at 6:35 p.m. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK mobile app beginning at 6:15 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call. _
