
Late Push by Bluefish Sinks Skeeters 5-3 in Series Opener

BRIDGEPORT, CT - The Sugar Land Skeeters were defeated by the Bridgeport Bluefish 5-3 behind a late rally on Tuesday night. The Skeeters moved to 15-11 in the second half and hold a one game lead over York Revolution for 1st place in the Freedom Division.
Jonathan Abaladejo picked up his 10th win of the season after going six innings, giving up three runs on nine hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.
Albert Cordero's single in the 2nd scored Travis Scott, giving the Skeeters an early 1-0 lead. Travis Scott followed that up in the 3rd with his 12th homer of the season that extended the lead to 2-0. A sac-fly RBI by Jeremy Barfield scored Delwyn Young in the 5th making it 3-0.
Tim Alderson struggled out of the pen in the 6th, giving up a two-run single to Jose Gil that scored Jose Cuevas and Sean Burroughs to make it 3-2. Luiz Nunez followed with a two-run single that would plate Jonathan Galvez and Jose Gil to put the Bluefish up 4-3.
Jose Gil tacked on another run in the 7th that would all but seal a 5-3 victory for Bridgeport. Jose Veras shut the Skeeters out in the 9th to record his 8th save of the season.

The Skeeters return home to Constellation Field to host the Somerset Patriots for a brief three-game series August 5-7. On Friday, August 5, game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. and will feature the popular Fireworks Friday as well as Super Hero Night. Saturday, August 6 is 80's Night at the ballpark and first pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. Saturday night will also feature a post-game concert by the Spazmatics. The Skeeters will wrap up the home stand on Sunday, August 7 with Sunday Funday.
