York Revolution News Release
(York, Pa.) - The York Revolution beat the Bridgeport Bluefish 4-3 in seven innings on Wednesday afternoon at PeoplesBank Park in the first game of a day-night doubleheader. The Revs and Bluefish will play the nightcap at 6:30 tonight.
Jorge Martinez (1-1) earned his first win of the season with five innings of one-run, six hit ball. He walked none and struck out five on 70 pitches. Jimmy Patterson (0-1) took the loss after surrendering two runs on two hits in three frames. Mike DeMark earned a nail-biting save in the seventh inning.
The Bluefish first threatened in the top of the second inning. Wilkin Ramirez singled with one out, then Josh Witters banged a base hit off the Arch Nemesis. Ramirez went first to third, but Witters tried to take the extra base after seeing the throw go to second. Shortstop Josh Wilson alertly fired over to second to nail Witters and take the wind out of Bridgeport's sails. Jorge Martinez retired the next batter via strikeout to end the threat.
The game was delayed for an hour and two minutes moments after Martinez's punchout.
The Revs opened up the scoring in the bottom of the third. Salvador Paniagua took a 1-1 pitch from Patterson and deposited it in the playground in left center field for a leadoff home run, his first of the season. Michael Rockett followed with a walk, then after a popout Josh Wilson crushed a double off the wall in left center to plate Rockett and make it 2-0.
Bridgeport cut the Rev lead in half in the fifth as Ruben Sosa, Jr. legged out a run-scoring infield single with two out. Martinez reached down deep, though, striking out Luis Nunez for his last out.
York took out insurance in the sixth as, after Telvin Nash and Joel Guzman one-out singles, James Simmons doubled home both to make it 4-1.
The Bluefish caught a couple of breaks with two down in the seventh as Yefry Castillo beat out an infield hit and Luis Hernandez reached on a two-base error. Sosa, Jr. grounded a single up the middle to plate the runners and went to second on the throw. With the tying run on second, DeMark reached back for a strikeout of Nunez to lock down his fifth save.
Wilson, Simmons, and Paniagua led the way with the three extra-base hits and all four RBIs. Paniagua left the game with two outs in the seventh after sliding awkwardly going after a ball close to the first base dugout.
Notes: Paniagua's home run was his 39th as a Rev, breaking a tie with Eric Patterson to give him sole possession of sixth on the franchise leaderboard. He is two shy of cracking the top five (James Shanks, 41). Ty'Relle Harris takes the hill for York against Bridgeport's Jonathan Albaladejo in the final game of a four-game series and eight-game homestand. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK mobile app beginning at 6:10 p.m. with Darrell Henry and Will DeBoer on the call. Wednesday night is PeoplesBank Client Appreciation Night and Kids Eat Free presented by PeoplesBank. Tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
