New England Revolution News Release
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution's path to its second U.S. Open Cup title will continue on the road if the Revs defeat D.C. United next Wednesday in the tournament's quarterfinals.
U.S. Soccer today announced the semifinal-round pairings, which will see the winner of the Revs-United match travel to face the winner of the Chicago Fire (MLS) - Orlando City FC (USL PRO) quarterfinal match, which will also be played next Wednesday.
The U.S. Open Cup semifinals will be played on Wednesday, Aug. 7, and both of the Revs' semifinal scenarios see kickoff times set for 7:30 p.m. The semifinal locations were determined by U.S. Soccer by a coin flip earlier this morning.
The Revolution is set to face rival D.C. United at Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Md., next Wednesday, June 26, with a spot in the semifinals on the line.
The other quarterfinal matches see the Portland Timbers facing FC Dallas, while Real Salt Lake will meet the Carolina Railhawks (North American Soccer League).
The Revs entered the tournament in the third round with the rest of the U.S.-based MLS teams, and defeated USL PRO club Rochester Rhinos in Rochester, 5-1, on May 28. In the fourth round, New England topped the New York Red Bulls, 4-2, at Harvard University to advance to the quarterfinals.
The Revolution is the 2007 U.S. Open Cup champion, a title that was the club's first-ever cup tournament title. New England defeated FC Dallas, 3-2, in Frisco, Texas, on Oct. 3, 2007, to win that match and the 2007 title. The Revs have a 13-10-4 all-time record in U.S. Open Cup matches.
