New England Revolution News Release

Foxborough, MA - New England Revolution announced today that midfielder Shalrie Joseph is the Grenada Football Association's "Footballer of the Year" for 2003. Joseph's standout play in his first season with the Revolution was a major factor in his winning the award. Among other players, Joseph beat out fellow Grenadian Jason Roberts of Portsmouth FC of the English Premier League for the trophy. The annual honor goes to the top soccer player in the Caribbean nation of Grenada.

Joseph is expected to be an integral part of Grenada's FIFA World Cup Qualifying campaign, which begins with a CONCACAF Intra-Caribbean Round home-and-home series against Guyana. The winner of Grenada-Guyana, the first game of which will be played February 28th, will advance to play the United States the weekend of June 12-13.

Joseph was an instrumental part of the Revolution in 2003, his first MLS season. Taking over a regular starting midfield role three games into the Revs' campaign, Joseph became one of the team's most reliable ball-winners and passers, and appeared in 28 regular season games, tying him for first on the team. Joseph's ability to link the back line with the wings and frontrunners made him a vital cog in the Revs' engine room as he combined with José Cancela to become of the league's top central midfield pairings.

Joseph has appeared in over 10 games for Grenada, whose national team is known as the "Spice Boys". The Revolution made him the 14th overall selection (2nd Round) in the 2002 MLS SuperDraft. In 2002, Joseph played with the New York Freedoms of the USL D3 Pro League after training with several professional clubs in Europe.

Joseph, whose family moved from Grenada to Crown Heights, Brooklyn when he was fifteen, played his college soccer at Bryant & Stratton College in Syracuse, NY before starring at St. John's University, where he led the Red Storm to the NCAA Final Four in 2001.
