Revolution's Reis Nominated for ESPY Award

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - New England Revolution goalkeeper Matt Reis is among the four nominees for the 2007 ESPY Award for Best MLS Player, ESPN announced today. Reis joins fellow nominees Jeff Cunningham (Toronto FC), Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy) and Christian Gomez (D.C. United) as finalists for the annual award. This is Reis' first ESPY nomination.

The 15th Annual ESPY Awards will take place on Wednesday, July 11, at Hollywood's Kodak Theater where Jimmy Kimmel and LeBron James will serve as the show's hosts. ESPN will televise the awards show on Sunday, July 15, at 9 p.m. ET.

In 2006, Reis established himself as arguably Major League Soccer's top goalkeeper. He led the league in saves (144), shutouts (10) and was first among full-time goalkeepers in goals against average with a career-best 1.09 mark, while also leading the Revs to MLS Cup 2006 in Frisco, Texas, for the second year in a row.

Reis holds nearly every Revolution club goalkeeping record. He is ranked fourth in the MLS career record books for goals against average (1.26) and is seventh in games played (143), games started (138), minutes played (12,556), wins (59), saves (542) and shutouts (37).

Reis is also a member of the U.S. National Team, earning a 2-0-0 record with one shutout in his two appearances.

Reis and the Eastern Conference leading Revolution (6-2-4, 22 pts.) return to action on Saturday, June 30, when they travel to face Chivas USA at 10:30 p.m. ET at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. TV38 will televise the game live, while WRKO 680 AM will carry the game live on the radio.
