SAN PEDRO, Calif. (Monday, June 25, 2007) - The campaign to end hunger across America is one that communities nationwide continue to diligently battle. In recognition of National Hunger Awareness Month, the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank is teaming up with the Los Angeles Galaxy, the Los Angeles Avengers and Albertsons to conduct a "Dash for the Hungry" supermarket race that is guaranteed to raise big money in a fun way.
What: Dash for the Hungry - a race where the LA Galaxy soccer team and the Los Angeles Avengers indoor football team "dash" around Albertsons pushing grocery carts and collecting food to feed the hungry. With only five minutes on the clock, the goal is to collect as much product as possible and raise plenty of money to benefit families and residents who rely on the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank for assistance. Who will win? That remains to be seen!
When: Tuesday, June 26, 2007 - Race time begins promptly at 1:30 p.m.

Why: June is National Hunger Awareness Month - Nationally 36 million Americans are at risk of hunger, 13 million are children. In Los Angeles County, one out of every ten people are at risk of hunger.
Visuals: -Professional athletes criss-crossing select aisles at breakneck speeds, filling up their baskets and attempting to avoid a crashing of carts as they race against time and each other.
-Albertsons associates ringing up product as quickly as the superstars can collect it
-Fans cheering their favorite players on to victory
-Los Angeles Galaxy and Los Angeles Avengers presenting L.A. Regional Foodbank with a donation
