FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - Following the club's 1-0 victory over reigning Mexican champion Santos Laguna in the SuperLiga 2008 Group B opener on Sunday night, the New England Revolution will continue group play in SuperLiga by hosting another Mexican power, Pachuca, at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 16, at Gillette Stadium. ESPN Deportes Radio will carry the game nationally in Spanish, while local listeners can tune in to the WEEI Radio Network for English audio.
New England (10-4-3, 33 pts. in league play) is currently the top team in Major League Soccer and is tied for the SuperLiga Group B lead with Pachuca, which is the defending SuperLiga and CONCACAF Champions Cup champion. "Los Tuzos" - which translates to the Gophers - also won their group play opener, defeating MLS side Chivas USA, 2-1, at The Home Depot Center on Sunday night.
The match will provide a chance for either New England or Pachuca to put a stranglehold on Group B as the clubs vie for the tournament's $1 million prize, which is the heftiest winner's purse in North American soccer history. Following group play, the top two teams in each group will advance to the semifinals, so a win for either side on Wednesday night would almost assure a spot among the tournament's final four teams.
