New England Revolution News Release
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - U.S. Soccer has announced that New England Revolution Under-16 forward Devin Devoy (North Attleboro, Mass.) is among a group of 36 players selected by U.S. Under-15 Boy's National Team head coach Jim Barlow for an upcoming training camp at the IMG Academies in Bradenton, Fla. The players will convene for an eight-day training camp, which will run Feb. 15-22.
Devoy, 14, is currently a freshman at Bishop Feehan High School in Attleboro, Mass. Prior to earning a spot in the Revolution's Youth Development Program, Devoy played for FC Greater Boston Bolts, the former youth club team of current Revolution first team players Chris Tierney and Mike Videira. Revs Assistant Coach Paul Mariner has also served as the Technical Director for the Bolts. Devoy, who has previous national team experience with the U.S. U14 team, made two appearances with the Revolution U16s at the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Winter Showcase in early December. He scored the Revolution U16s' only goal of the competition in a 3-1 loss to Washington Premier FC.
All 36 players in attendance at the U.S. U15 team's first training camp of 2009 were born in 1994, and are therefore eligible for both the 2009 and 2011 FIFA Under-17 World Cups. Almost half the players (17) currently play with clubs that are members of U.S. Soccer's Development Academy, while four - including Devoy - are with Major League Soccer youth teams.
Both the Revs' U18 and U16 teams open their Academy schedules this weekend with away matches against the New York Red Bulls on Saturday, Feb. 14 and the Baltimore Bays on Sunday, Feb. 15.
The Revolution first team begins the 2009 season at 10:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, March 21, when the club travels to face the San Jose Earthquakes at Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. The match will be televised locally by TV38 and will be available to radio listeners on the WEEI Radio Network. The Revs open their 2009 home slate on Saturday, April 4, when they host FC Dallas. Ticket information - for season tickets and special four-game packs - is available at revolutionsoccer.net or by calling 1-877-GET-REVS.
