Revolution Trade Charlie Davies to Philadelphia Union

"When this was brought to us, we talked directly with Charlie. It was important to do what was right for Charlie and his family. If it wasn't right for them, we wouldn't have considered it," said Michael Burns, General Manager for the New England Revolution. "It's never easy parting with a player like Charlie, but we are grateful for his contributions to the club and we wish him and his family all the best and consider them a part of the Revolution family."

In his three years with the club, Charlie has made a significant impact with his play on the pitch and has also made a profound, personal impression on his teammates, coaches, the front office, and Revolution fans. Despite all of the adversity he has faced in his life, particularly recently, Charlie has always worn his trademark smile and been a consistent source of positivity.

"I'm blown away by the support I've received from Revolution fans and from my teammates. It's been an honor to be part of such a wonderful and welcoming locker room and I leave with incredible friendships. I also am grateful to the Krafts for the opportunity and for all their support," said Charlie Davies. "I'm excited for the next chapter in my career and look forward to joining the Union."

Over four seasons with the Revolution, Davies totaled 64 regular season appearances, 41 starts, 14 goals, and eight assists. He also started five games in the club's run to the 2014 MLS Cup, scoring five goals with one assist during the postseason. Davies has also played professionally for D.C. United, where he scored 11 goals in 2011, and overseas with Swedish club Hammarby, French side Sochaux, and Danish club Randers FC. Originally from Manchester, N.H., he attended Brooks School in North Andover, Mass. and played three seasons at Boston College.

TRANSACTION: New England Revolution acquire general allocation money, targeted allocation money, and the Union's natural first-round pick in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft from Philadelphia Union in exchange for forward Charlie Davies and New England's natural third-round pick in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft on Aug. 3, 2016.
