Revolution Top Colorado Rapids, 2-1, Despite Multiple Weather Delays

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. - The New England Revolution (6-8-5, 23 pts.) defeated the Colorado Rapids (5-10-4; 19 pts.), 2-1, at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Thursday night. Battling through three separate severe weather delays that totaled more than three hours, New England extended its unbeaten streak to a league-leading seven games courtesy of goals from Teal Bunbury and Juan Fernando Caicedo. The 4-0-3 unbeaten run is now the longest active streak in MLS, as the win snapped the Rapids' own seven-game stretch.

After a one-hour delay prior to kickoff, Bunbury put New England on top early with his 50th career MLS goal, and his fifth in the team's last six games across all competitions, in the eighth minute. Former Rapids defender Edgar Castillo sent a curling ball in to Bunbury's chest, which the 10th-year forward settled and finished coolly past Tim Howard. Following an abbreviated halftime break, the Revolution doubled the lead in the 52nd minute on a set-piece delivery from Carles Gil, which found the head of Juan Fernando Caicedo for the Colombian striker's fourth goal of the season.

Colorado threatened the Revolution defense with a flurry of late chances, and the hosts managed to pull within one after a Diego Rubio goal in the 71st minute. Goalkeeper Matt Turner, who improved to 3-1-1 on the year, played a big role down the stretch with four saves in the match, including a spectacular, diving stop in the 89th minute to deny Lalas Abubakar and secure the club's second straight away win.

New England returns to action on Friday, July 12, when the club visits D.C. United for a nationally televised match on ESPN. The contest kicks off at 9:00 p.m. ET and will also air locally on the radio on 98.5 The Sports Hub, and in Portuguese on 1260 AM Nossa Radio.

Revs Battle Severe Weather Delays to Defeat Colorado Rapids, 2-1

- The Revolution defeated the Colorado Rapids, 2-1, on Thursday night to improve to 6-8-5 (23 pts.) on the season and 2-4-3 away from home.

- New England remains an unbeaten 5-0-2 against Western Conference opponents this season, including two consecutive road victories after defeating the LA Galaxy on June 2.

- The match was halted by three separate severe weather delays totaling over three hours combined, including a one-hour stoppage prior to kickoff and additional delays in the 28th and 35th minutes.

New England's Unbeaten Streak Extended to Seven Games

- New England extended its unbeaten run in MLS play to seven games with tonight's win (4-0-3), matching a seven-game run from May 26 - July 7, 2018.

- The Revolution now own the longest active unbeaten streak in MLS at seven games, as the win snapped the Rapids' own league-best streak of seven games entering the match. New England has not lost in MLS play since May 8 at Chicago and is 5-1-3 overall during that span.

Bunbury Scores 50th Career MLS Goal, Fifth in Six Games

- Forward Teal Bunbury gave New England an early lead with his eighth-minute goal, assisted by Edgar Castillo. The goal marked Bunbury's fifth in the team's last six games across all competitions.

- Bunbury now owns three MLS goals on the season to go with one assist. For his MLS career, he has scored 50 goals with 26 assists in 256 career regular season games.

- The eighth-minute strike marked the Revolution's fastest goal in MLS play this season, one minute ahead of Carles Gil's ninth-minute goal on March 17 at Toronto.

Juan Fernando Caicedo Tallies Fourth Goal

- Forward Juan Fernando Caicedo found the back of the net in the 52nd minute, heading a free kick from Carles Gil inside the far post for his fourth goal of the season.

- Caicedo's fourth tally ties him with Gil for the team lead in scoring through 19 games. It is his first game-winning goal of the year.

Castillo Records Third Assist in Return to Colorado

- Defender Edgar Castillo made his 14th start of the season at left back for the Revolution and recorded his third assist of the season on Teal Bunbury's eight-minute goal.

- Castillo played for Colorado in 2018, his first season in MLS after 11 years in the top divisions in Mexico. The Las Cruces, New Mexico native made 28 starts, scored three goals, and added five assists for the Rapids.

Farrell Continues Climb up Revs' Games Played List

- Defender Andrew Farrell once again moved up the club's all-time games played list, as his 205th regular season appearance ties him with Kelyn Rowe for the sixth most in team history.

- Since Farrell entered the league, he leads all MLS outfield players in games started (203) and minutes played (18,078), and also ranks second in games played (205).

Revolution Starting XI Sees Three Changes from Saturday

- The Revolution's starting lineup saw three changes from club's last match on June 29 vs. Houston. Edgar Castillo, Teal Bunbury, and Wilfried Zahibo replaced DeJuan Jones, Justin Rennicks, and Diego Fagundez.

- Defender Antonio Delamea picked up a caution in the 78th minute, meaning he will be suspended for Friday's match at D.C. United due to yellow card accumulation.
