(York, Pa): The York Revolution continued to strengthen its battery combination, adding former major-league right-handed pitcher Pete Munro and returning catcher Sandy Aracena to the list of signed players for 2008. Revs director of baseball operations Adam Gladstone announced the signings today, which increased the current roster to 16 players, including eight returning from last season.

Munro is the fifth former big-leaguer to join the pitching staff, bringing 120 games (40 starts) of major-league experience to the Revs. The 32-year-old compiled 13 wins and a 4.88 ERA during parts of five seasons in the majors with the Toronto Blue Jays and Houston Astros. His best season came in 2002 with Houston when he went 5-5 with a 3.57 ERA in 19 appearances and 14 starts. The following year, Munro was part of a group of six Astros pitchers that combined to no-hit the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium on June 11, 2003. The Flushing, NY native was originally drafted in the sixth round of the 1993 draft by the Boston Red Sox, and is 80-69 with a 4.02 ERA in his minor-league career. He spent 2007 pitching professionally in Taiwan where he was a teammate of Revs pitcher Wayne Franklin on a Uni Lions squad that captured the Chinese Professional Baseball League championship. As a starter overseas, Munro led the league with a 2.03 ERA, and finished second in wins with 14. He fired seven complete games, and struck out 107 while walking only 22.

Aracena split his 2007 season in the Atlantic League between the Road Warriors, Bridgeport Bluefish, and York Revolution. The Dominican Republic native combined to bat .300 with four homeruns and 29 RBI. Aracena finished his season with York after being acquired in a trade with Bridgeport for pitcher Matt Ford. The 27-year-old batted .368 in 18 games and had five multi-hit games for the Revolution. Aracena first joined the Atlantic League in 2006 with the Road Warriors, after spending three years in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization, and two seasons in the Tampa Bay Rays farm system.

"Pete was recommended by Wayne Franklin, and anytime you can get a starting pitcher with major league service, coupled with his 2007 season in Taiwan, our organization will benefit from his experience," said Gladstone. "We're also excited to have Sandy back. I think he showed that he deserves the opportunity again. He's excited too, and it gives us another option behind the plate of someone who has experience and has shown success."
