
Revolution Sign Veteran MLS Defender Ben Sweat

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution have signed defender Ben Sweat to the club's MLS roster. The eighth-year MLS defender, who most recently played for Sporting Kansas City, is signed through the 2023 MLS season, with an option for 2024, and will occupy a supplemental roster slot.
Sweat, 31, has made 121 MLS regular season appearances, with 106 starts, and has totaled 14 assists in league play. The Palm Harbor, Fla. native joins his sixth MLS club in New England, having previously suited up for Austin FC, Inter Miami CF, New York City FC, Columbus Crew, and Sporting Kansas City. Sweat signed with SKC ahead of the 2022 campaign and made 25 appearances over two seasons, with three assists, before being waived in April.
"Ben Sweat is an experienced defender in our league, and his arrival adds depth and versatility to our roster," said Revolution Sporting Director and Head Coach Bruce Arena.
Sweat began his career with the Columbus Crew before excelling at New York City FC over three seasons from 2017-19. Sweat made 26 appearances in his first season win the Bronx and recorded a career-high six assists. In his NYCFC career, Sweat made 72 league appearances and saw action in 16 additional games in the MLS Cup Playoffs and U.S. Open Cup.
The defender has been capped twice by the United States Men's National Team, appearing in a pair of October 2018 friendlies against Colombia and Peru. Prior to joining the pro ranks, Sweat starred at the University of South Florida for four years and still holds the program record with 78 collegiate appearances for the Bulls.
