Foxborough, Mass. -- The New England Revolution today announced the signing of midfielder/defender Daniel Hernandez. Hernandez, who played with the Revolution during the 2002 and 2003 seasons, played the last two years with first division Mexican soccer club Necaxa. Hernandez will count as part of the Revs' 18-player senior roster.

"I'm very pleased that Danny's back with our club," said Revolution head coach Steve Nicol. "He was a strong player when he was here two and three years ago and was a big part of our run to the 2002 MLS Cup Final. His experience in Mexico's top league has only made him a better player."

Hernandez played in a total of 50 league matches-starting 39 of those-and two playoff games for Necaxa, scoring three goals. His Mexican league stint spanned a total of four apertura (opening) and clausura (closing) seasons.

Prior to his moving to Mexico, Hernandez played in 28 regular season games for the Revolution, starting 20. He posted scoring totals of three goals and three assists during his spell with the Revs. In the 2002 playoffs, Hernandez had a goal and an assist in six playoff starts.

Hernandez initially came to the Revolution on May 24, 2002, as part of a six-player deal with the MetroStars. He made significant contributions to the Revolution's successful late-season run in 2002 when the team won the Eastern Conference Championship. Hernandez was a starter for New England in the 2002 MLS Cup Final at Gillette Stadium.

Prior to joining the Revs, Hernandez played in MLS for the MetroStars (2000-2002, 30 games), the Tampa Bay Mutiny (1999-2000, four games) and the Los Angeles Galaxy (1998-99, 37 games) for a total of 101 MLS games, including his time with the Revs.

Per MLS and team policy, terms of the deal are not disclosed.

The first-place Revolution hosts the Kansas City Wizards at 8:00 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, August 6. Call 1-877-GET-REVS for ticket information.
