
Revolution Select Forward Bobby Wood in Stage 2 of 2022 MLS Re-Entry Draft

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution selected American forward Bobby Wood with the first pick in Stage 2 of the 2022 MLS Re-Entry Draft on Tuesday. New England acquired the No. 1 pick from D.C. United in exchange for $50,000 in 2023 General Allocation Money (GAM) and the No. 9 pick in Tuesday's Re-Entry Draft.
Per MLS roster rules, the Revolution have seven days to make a genuine contract offer to Wood. If an agreement cannot be reached between the drafting club and player, the drafting club holds the Right of First Refusal for that player in MLS.
Wood, 30, spent the last two seasons with Real Salt Lake, where he recorded five goals in 31 appearances from 2021-22, with an additional tally in the MLS Cup Playoffs. Last season, Wood started 13 games for RSL, with three goals and one assist. Before arriving in MLS, the Honolulu, Hawaii native spent his entire 11-year professional career in Germany, where he developed in the 1860 Munich youth academy before debuting the senior team in 2011.
During his career in Germany, Wood totaled 10 goals in 72 German Bundesliga contests, with an additional 24 goals across 112 games played in the 2. Bundesliga. He collected 50 appearances with 1860 Munich from 2011-15 before joining Union Berlin. During the 2015-2016 campaign, Wood set a record for goals scored by an American in a single season in Germany's top two flights with 17 tallies over 31 appearances in the 2. Bundesliga.
Wood later moved to Hamburger SV in the Bundesliga and recorded 13 goals and three assists in 80 games for the club across all competitions. In his first top-flight season in 2017-18, Wood tallied five goals in 28 Bundesliga games. He also went on loan to Hannover 96 for one season, tallying three goals in 20 league games.
The United States international is the owner of 45 USMNT caps, with 13 goals scored and five assists. Wood made his senior international debut in 2013 before scoring his first international goal against the Netherlands in 2015. In FIFA World Cup Qualifying action, Wood has scored five goals with two assists over 14 appearances. While with the USMNT, Wood featured six times under Revolution Sporting Director and Head Coach Bruce Arena from 2016-17.
