Revolution Play San Jose Earthquakes to 2-2 Draw

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution (6-4-6, 24 pts.) wrapped up a two-game road swing with a 2-2 draw against the San Jose Earthquakes (2-9-4, 15 pts.) at Avaya Stadium on Wednesday evening. Diego Fagundez responded to an early goal from Earthquakes forward Danny Hoesen with a stunning free kick in the 31st minute. Fagundez delivered the assist on Cristian Penilla's go-ahead goal 12 minutes later, but Hoesen leveled the score on the other side of halftime with an equalizer in the 51st minute.

With a goal and an assist in tonight's match, Fagundez joins Penilla as one of nine MLS players with at least five goals and five assists this season. Fagundez, who started a match with the captain's armband for the first time in his MLS career, ties Penilla for the team lead in assists, and moves within three of Kelyn Rowe and Chris Tierney for third place in the club's record book.

Penilla scored the sixth goal of his debut MLS campaign in the 43rd minute, which brings him within three goals of Teal Bunbury for the team lead. The Ecuadorian international owns the second most goals among all MLS newcomers, trailing only LAFC's Carlos Vela and LA Galaxy's Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who have both registered seven tallies this season.

By securing a point against San Jose, New England extends its unbeaten run in away matches to three games dating back to a 3-3 draw against Vancouver Whitecaps FC on May 26. The Revolution also secured a result after conceding the first goal for the fifth time this season.

New England returns to action on Saturday, June 30, when the club hosts Eastern Conference rival D.C. United at Gillette Stadium. The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Boston. Fans may also listen on the radio in English on 98.5 The Sports Hub and in Portuguese on 1260 AM Nossa Radio.

- The Revolution played the San Jose Earthquakes to a draw, 2-2, on Wednesday, bringing the club's record to 6-4-6 (24 pts.) through 16 matches of the 2018 regular season. The Revolution are now 1-2-4 on the road in 2018.

- New England's all-time record against San Jose moves to 14-20-8, including a 6-10-5 mark on the road.

Fagundez Tallies Fifth Goal and Fifth Assist

- Midfielder Diego Fagundez scored New England's opening goal and added an assist on Cristian Penilla's 43rd-minute goal, marking the second time this season he has contributed both a goal and assist in a single match (April 6 vs. Montreal).

- Fagundez joins Penilla as one of nine MLS players with five goals and five assists this season.

- The Revolution now join New York City FC as one of only two MLS teams with three players with at least five goals this season.

- Fagundez's five assists also tie him with Penilla for most among Revolution players.

- Tonight's contest marked the first time Fagundez has worn the captain's armband to start a match in MLS career.

Penilla Scores Sixth Goal of Standout Debut MLS Campaign

- Midfielder Cristian Penilla scored his sixth goal of the season in the 43rd minute, picking the far corner to put New England ahead before the break.

- Penilla now owns the second most goals among Revolution players, trailing only Teal Bunbury, who has nine tallies on the year.

- Among all MLS newcomers, Penilla trails only LAFC's Carlos Vela (7) and LA Galaxy's Zlatan Ibrahimovic (7) for most goals scored this season.

New England Continues Strong Form on the Road

- The Revolution secured a point for a third consecutive away match in tonight's contest, with the streak dating back to a 3-3 draw against Vancouver Whitecaps FC on May 26.

- New England also earned a point against the Chicago Fire on the first leg of this road trip, a 1-1 draw on June 9.

Revolution Make One Change to Starting XI

- Revolution Head Coach Brad Friedel made one change to the club's starting lineup from its most recent MLS match on June 9 at Chicago. Defender Gabriel Somi replaced defender Claude Dielna, who was suspended for tonight's match due to yellow card accumulation.
