New England Revolution News Release
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution had two players selected in today's MLS Expansion Draft, with forwards Patrick Mullins and Tony Taylor being selected by New York City FC.
With their second pick, NYC FC selected forward Patrick Mullins from the Revolution. The 11th overall pick in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft, Mullins made 21 regular season appearances for the Revs in 2014, scoring four goals and adding one assist. In the postseason, Mullins made three appearances as a substitute, collecting an assist on Chris Tierney's goal in MLS Cup against the LA Galaxy. Mullins scored a goal in four consecutive games between May 3 and May 24, scoring in wins over Toronto FC, Seattle Sounders FC, the Philadelphia Union and D.C. United. The 22-year-old former University of Maryland star recorded his lone assist of the regular season on Lee Nguyen's second goal in the Revs' 3-1 home win over Sporting Kansas City on September 3.
In the fifth round, NYC FC selected a second Revolution player, claiming forward Tony Taylor. Acquired by the Revs on August 18 through a weighted lottery, Taylor made one appearance for New England, coming off the bench in the 81st minute of a 1-0 win over Chivas USA on August 23. Prior to coming to MLS last summer, Taylor had spent the entirety of his professional career in Europe, playing in Portugal for G.D. Estoril Praia and Atletico Clube Portugal before joining Omonia Nikosia in Cyprus for the 2013-14 season. A native of Jacksonville, Fla., Taylor is a veteran of the U.S. Youth National Team setup, having represented the U.S. at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2009, as well as playing for the U-23s at the 2012 CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying tournament.
Following the departures of Mullins and Taylor, the Revolution roster is now at 19 players, including forward Jerry Bengston, who is currently away on loan in Argentina.
