Postgame Quotes

Defender DeJuan Jones

On the team getting its first preseason win and scoring four goals:

Jones: "Yeah, we were working hard in practice this past week finishing, working on our interchanges, our overlaps, so I thought we did a good job, especially in the second half generating a lot of chances. And like you said, whenever we're putting the ball in the back of the net four times, it's something to celebrate."

On the biggest improvements from the preseason opener:

Jones: "The first game I think the scoreline doesn't reflect how the game went. We got in some great spots, we just weren't finishing, so to put away four tonight is big. I think it's going to help with our confidence going forward."

On his connection with Gustavo Bou:

Jones: "I don't know what it is, but me and Gustavo have a good connection this year. I see his runs early and he calls for the ball in the right spot, so looking forward to continuing that connection going forward."

On playing and training primarily at left back this preseason:

Jones: "Yeah, it's definitely been helpful just getting the consistent reps in the same spot. I think that's where I'm going to be going forward, but like you said, I'm a versatile player, so wherever I need to be for the team is what I'm willing to do."

On where the team stands two-and-a-half weeks out from the season opener:

Jones: "I think we're in a really good place. We just got some guys back, so now we'll get the full team together, and we're looking to build off this result going forward against LAFC and LA Galaxy [II]."

Midfielder Damian Rivera

On the team getting a first preseason win and scoring four goals:

Rivera: "We've been training for this. Coming off from the first game, we got the goals in the back of the net and now it showed."

On the biggest improvements from the preseason opener:

Rivera: "I'll say the biggest thing for us is finishing our chances. I think the first game we had plenty of chances, we just didn't get to put them in the back of the net. I thought we were connecting well in the attacking third and we just put them in the back of the net."

On how preseason minutes with the first team are helping his development:

Rivera: "I'll say I think I'm improving. My teammates, my coaches, they're all helping me. I think every day I'm getting better and I'm connecting more with the team every time."

On where the team stands two-and-a-half weeks out from the season opener:

Rivera: "I feel like we're in a pretty good spot. As the game showed today, I thought the team played well. We were connecting, and I think these next three games are a chance for us to get better."
