FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution announced today that the club has signed Costa Rica youth international forward Argenis Fernandez to a Major League Soccer contract to play for the Revs. He will occupy one of the team's eight international spots on the roster. Per MLS and club policy, terms of the deal were not released. He will join the team upon receipt of U.S. P-1 Visa.

Fernandez, 20, comes to the Revolution from Santos de Guápiles of Costa Rica's Primera División. He has played his entire professional career with Santos, coming up through the club's youth system. With his signing with MLS, Fernandez becomes the first player to transfer internationally.

Fernandez was a member of Costa Rica's entry at the 2007 FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Canada where he made two appearances for the Ticos.

"Argenis is a dynamic young forward who has the potential to add a new dimension to our team," Revolution Director of Soccer Michael Burns said. "We're looking forward to his arrival with the team and helping him get acclimated to our personnel."

The Revolution begins the 2008 season at 7:30 p.m. on March 29 when the team hosts the Houston Dynamo at Gillette Stadium in a rematch of MLS Cup 2007. Fox Soccer Channel will televise the game nationally. For more information, visit revolutionsoccer.net or call 1-877-GET-REVS.
