New England (14-13-3, 45 pts.) currently sits in second place in the Eastern Conference, tied with Sporting Kansas City and six points behind first-place D.C. United. The Revs' 14 wins have already matched the team's 2013 season win total with four games remaining this year. In the congested Eastern Conference, just nine points separates the second through eighth-place teams.
The top five teams in both the Eastern and Western Conferences will advance to the MLS Cup Playoffs. The fourth and fifth seeds will face off in the Knockout Round, before the first, second and third-place teams, and winner of the Knockout Round, advance to the Conference Semifinals.
The Revolution returned to the MLS Cup Playoffs in 2013 after a three-year absence. The Revs pushed Sporting KC, the eventual MLS Cup champion, to the brink of elimination in the Eastern Conference Semifinals before Sporting claimed the series with a 4-3 win on aggregate after 30 minutes of extra time. Overall, the Revolution has advanced to the MLS Cup Playoffs 10 times in club history, reaching MLS Cup four times.
