Resilient Storm Shock Blaze
August 6, 2016 - California League (CalL1)
Bakersfield Blaze News Release
A game that could not have played out any better for the Blaze ended in the worst kind of way for them on Friday night.
Franmil Reyes hit an opposite field solo home run with two outs in the bottom of 11th inning off of Vinny Nittoli as Lake Elsinore beat Bakersfield 3-2.
Leading 2-1, Blaze Manager Eddie Menchaca was in the perfect position to turn things over to his most reliable arm in the bullpen to snap a 3-game losing streak.
With a shot at redemption after blowing his first blown save of the year in his previous outing, Jake Zokan was unable to answer the call.
Zokan gave up a leadoff game-tying solo shot to Michael Gettys in the bottom of the 9th inning to draw things even at 2-2.
In a tightly contested affair, Blaze starting pitcher Osmer Morales did everything in his power to pick up the victory.
The right-hander yielded one run, on three hits, while walking one and striking out seven batters in six innings of work.
In the end, Bakersfield's inability to put any pressure on the Storm kept the home team hanging around until someone could deliver.
Offensively the Blaze scored two unearned runs off of starting pitcher Jesse Scholtens as four relievers held Bakersfield down for 6.1 innings.
Jordan Cowan executed a suicide squeeze in the fifth inning to score Justin Seager making it 2-0, but that was the last of the Blaze offense on this night.
Having lost four straight, Bakersfield now turns to Zack Littell on Saturday to stop the negative trend. First pitch is at 6:00pm from Lake Elsinore with David Gascon on the call courtesy of TuneIn Radio and BakersfieldBlaze.com.
