Lancaster JetHawks News Release

LANCASTER, Calif.- Jose Hernandez struck out 12 over six and two-thirds innings to help the JetHawks knock off the Modesto Nuts, 11-5, on Saturday night at The Hangar.

Hernandez (1-2) retired the first eight batters he faced and threw 99 pitches, 70 for strikes. The right-hander allowed three runs on five hits. His 12 strikeouts marked a new season high for any JetHawks pitcher this season. The win was the first for Hernandez in a JetHawks uniform and it came in his home debut.

The JetHawks jumped all over Modesto starter Parker French (6-9) with a single run in the first inning and three more in the second. Aaron Mizell and Keach Ballard each hit solo homers. The JetHawks now have gone deep in a season-high seven games in a row.

Lancaster broke open the game with five runs in the fifth inning on only two hits. They drew three walks and were hit by a pitch twice. Ballard, Johnny Sewald, Bobby Boyd, and Trent Woodward all drove in runs in the frame. Sewald had two hits in the game and reached five times, raising his batting average to .310.

Aaron Mizell went 4-for-5 in the game and came a double shy of the cycle.
