Republic FC's Rodrigo Lopez Nominated for USL Player of the Month for August

Sacramento, Calif. - On Thursday, USL Championship announced that Republic FC midfielder Rodrigo Lopez has been nominated for USL Fans' Choice Player of the Month for March. Fans can help vote Lopez as the league's top player for the month online at USLChampionship.com through Monday, September 12 at 9:00 a.m. PT.

For the month, Lopez tallied a league-leading four assists and scored one goal in four appearances. The midfielder kicked off August with club history, assisting two scores to become Republic FC's all-time assists leader as Sacramento came from behind for three points against New Mexico United. Just a few days later, he netted a thrilling equalizer in the final moments of play against his former club, Rio Grande Valley FC, securing a draw at the death for his club. Lopez's heroics continued in the following weeks as he assisted a goal apiece in wins against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on August 17, and regional rival Oakland Roots SC on August 27 - the eventual game winner.

Following his two-assist performance against New Mexico, Lopez was named the Week 22 Konami eFootball Player of the Week, the second time a Sacramento player has earned the honor this season. It marked his fifth selection to the league's weekly top squad in 2022. His nomination for Player of the Month is the first of his career in USL Championship.

In addition to stellar play in USL Championship competitions, Lopez closed out the 2022 U.S. Open Cup tournament with class. With four goals, he is tied for the Golden Boot with two other players, and also led the tournament with four assists. The captain showed incredible resolve by leading the Honor Guard for Orlando City SC following Wednesday's Final.

Following the U.S. Open Cup Final on Wednesday, Lopez and Republic FC return home to Heart Health Park this Saturday, September 10 against Loudoun United FC. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m., and the match will be broadcast live on Antenna TV 40.2, FOX40.com and the FOX40 News mobile app, and streaming on ESPN+.
