Reno Aces News Release
Sacramento, CA - The Reno Aces (14-16, 58-47) scattered four singles and a double in a tough offensive Friday night, falling to the Sacramento River Cats (11-19, 45-59) 4-1 at Sutter Health Park.
The Aces had multiple threats in the late innings and weren't able to muster the game shattering hack. Reno went 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position, putting aboard 12 baserunners but notching just one run. Despite hard-hit balls from Tristin English, Pavin Smith, Kyle Lewis, Camden Duzenack and Blaze Alexander, the Aces recorded zero extra-base hits until Smith doubled to lead off the seventh. Smith, who went 2-for-4, owns a gaudy .405 on-base percentage over his last 20 games.
Sacramento spurred activity on the bases in the second with a double steal to score the first run of the game. The River Cats added three more tallies in the next two frames, taking a 4-0 lead. English, after crushing his 12th homer Thursday night, drove in Pavin Smith on a 103.6 mph sharp sacrifice fly to get the Aces on the board in the fourth. English has knocked in 68 runs between Amarillo and Reno in a powerful, breakout campaign.
A prominent factor in the BLC Nine gaining a 3-0 series advantage in Sactown was the immense depth in the lineup. Reno's 7-8-9 hitters combined to go 11-for-31 (.355) with a double, a triple, two homers, and seven driven in through the first three games of the set. Friday was a different story as the bottom three in the order went 0-for-9 with three walks. The Aces get another crack at clinching the series Saturday night at 6:37 p.m. PT.
Aces Notables:
- Pavin Smith: 2-for-4, 2B
- Josh Green, Peter Strzelecki, and Stephen Nogosek: 3.2 IP, 0 H, 0 BB, 0 R/ER, 2 K
The Aces return home for a two-week homestand starting Tuesday, August 8th. Reno will host the Salt Lake Bees and Las Vegas Aviators with some special theme nights on deck at Greater Nevada Field.
