Chico Outlaws News Release

RENO, NV - Chuck Sindlinger's two-out double in the bottom of the 8th inning plated Victor Hall with the winning run as the Reno Silver Sox nipped the Chico Outlaws 10-9 Monday night in the opener of a two-game mini-series at Peccole Park on the campus of the University of Nevada, Reno. The Reno victory halted the Outlaws club-record winning streak at 11 games.

It was a tightly played contest until the two teams combined to score 13 runs in the 4th inning. The Outlaws took a 1-0 lead when Jason Van Meetren reached on an error (one of seven miscues Reno made on the evening), went to third on a Brock Ungricht singled and scored on a passed ball. Chico starting pitcher Phil Springman retired the first eight Silver Sox batters he faced but gave up a solo home run to Kane Simmons with two outs in the bottom of the 3rd to knot the score at one apiece. The Outlaws answered with five runs in the top of the 4th - Daniel Nava scored when Reno first baseman Ryan Brown misplayed an Ungricht grounder...then, with the bases loaded, Eric Pringle tripled to right field to drive in three and give Chico a 5-1 lead. Steve Boggs (who earlier in the game extended his team-high hitting streak to 13 games) then plated Pringle with a groundout to give the Outlaws a five run advantage.

The Silver Sox roared back in the bottom of the 4th, sending 13 men to the plate against Springman, and they used the long ball early and often - Jose Rodriguez bombed his sixth homer of the year with a man aboard to make the score 6-3...back-to-back singles by Carlos Madrid and Cody Nowlin and a double by Mike Done cut the Outlaws lead to two...and then Brown connected for an opposite field home run; the three-run blast putting Reno out in front 7-6. On Springman's next pitch, Simmons went yard again...his second solo homer putting the Silver Sox up 8-6. Hall followed with a single, stole second and third, then came home on a Scott Dragicevich throwing error to complete the eight run 4th and give Reno a 9-6 lead.

Chico battled back, scoring two runs in the 7th inning on a Silver Sox error and a Daniel Nava RBI single...then in the 8th the Outlaws pulled even when Jason Matteucci was balked home from third by Reno reliever Adam Nikolic. The Silver Sox went ahead to stay in the bottom of the 8th - after Nick Singleton, making a rare relief appearance, struck out the first two batters he faced, Hall reached on a bloop single to left and promptly stole second. That set the stage for Sindlinger, who ripped a 2-2 pitch off the left field wall to chase Hall home and put Reno up 10-9. Mike Peck came in from the Silver Sox bullpen, and though Reno's seventh error of the night allowed Chico to put the potential tying run in scoring position, he got Pringle to fly out to center to end the game and lock down the series-opening victory.

Nikolic (2-0) was credited with the win, with Peck picking up his first save of the season...Singleton (1-2) was charged with the loss. Nava and Matteucci each had two hits to pace the Outlaws nine hit attack...Reno piled up 14 hits on the night; Sindlinger went 3-for-5 to lead five Silver Sox with multi-hit games - Hall, Madrid, Brown and Simmons chipped in with two safeties apiece. Monday's loss drops the Outlaws to 17-7 on the season as their lead in the Golden Baseball League's first half race was shaved to three games...the Silver Sox improved to 10-13 on the year with their sixth win in the last seven games. The finale of the short series is scheduled for Tuesday with right-hander Jake McKinley (2-1, 5.57 ERA) on the mound for Chico...Reno will counter with righty Nick Moran (0-1, 3.06 ERA). Rory Miller brings you all the action beginning at 6:35pm on SportsFan 101.7 FM ESPN Radio.
