GBL Spalding Players of the Week

(Dublin, CA. July 2, 2007) The Golden Baseball League announced 3B Scott Dragicevich of the Chico Outlaws and teammate RHP Todd Gelatka have been named Player and Pitcher of Week Three. Sponsored by Spalding Baseball, these weekly awards recognize the most outstanding position player and pitcher in the league each week.
Scott Dragicevich, the Chico Outlaws 3rd baseman, was selected based on both his outstanding offensive and defensive performance during the week. He led the GBL in batting average as he hit .483, in hits for the week with 14, and in RBIs with 14. In addition, he delivered 3 game winning walk-off hits and a number of highlight reel defensive plays during the week that saw that Chico Outlaws go undefeated and climb to the top of the GBL standings. The 26 year old, out of Stanford University, spent five seasons in the Toronto Blue Jays farm system, climbing as high as AAA with the Syracuse Chiefs in 2003
Todd Gelatka, the Chico Outlaws closer is the first relief pitcher to garner Player of the Week honors this season. The right-hander saved two games and won another during the week and was instrumental in the Outlaws taking over first place in the standings. In all three of his outings he pitched a scoreless inning slamming the door as he allowed only a single hit during the week to go along with the 0.00 E.R.A. The 25 year old, out of southern California, spent three years in the Milwaukee Brewers farm system and initially joined the GBL last year as a starting pitcher with the Fullerton Flyers. Acquired by Chico in the off-season, he was moved to the bullpen and has excelled as a closer. In 11 games this season he has allowed just a single run while posting a record of 1-0 with a league leading seven saves and a miniscule E.R.A. of 0.87.

The Golden Baseball League, Presented by Safeway Inc./VONS, is a professional baseball league operating in the western U.S. Golden Baseball League teams include the Chico Outlaws in Chico; CA, the Orange County Flyers in Fullerton; CA, the Long Beach Armada in Long Beach; CA, the St. George Roadrunners in St. George, UT; the Yuma Scorpions in Yuma, AZ; and the Reno Silver Sox in Reno, NV. The season runs from early June to the end of August. Over 40 GBL players have had their contract purchased by Major League organizations in the last two years.
