Reno Aces Game Notes at Tacoma

Today's Game: Reno looks to recover from a 7-2 defeat yesterday afternoon in Tacoma. The Aces will send right-hander Neftali Feliz to the mound who is making his first start of the season and first start since 2013. Reno will look to their current Pacific Coast League Player of the Month, Kevin Cron, for help offensively. Cron is batting .429 over his last five games with five home runs, 9 runs scored and 13 RBI.

Last Game: Two big innings was all it took for the Tacoma Rainiers to take down the visiting Aces on Sunday afternoon at Cheney Stadium. Taylor Clarke was tagged for five runs on five hits in 5.2 innings of work and Braden Shipley allowed two earned on one swing of the bat in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Tacoma a 7-2 victory. Ildemaro Vargas led the Aces offensively, chipping in his sixth consecutive multi-hit game in a row. Reno was without their two stars down on rehab this afternoon as A.J. Pollock and Steven Souza Jr. both had a scheduled day off. The loss drops Reno to a record of 38-45 on the season with seven games left before the All-Star break.

Game of Crons: Kevin Cron was named the Pacific Coast League Player of the Week for the period of June 25-July 1. Cron went on a tear this week, going 12-for-26 (.461) in six games with 15 RBI, 5 home runs, 4 multi-hit games and two multi-home run games. The D-backs' No. 19 prospect went yard twice and drove in six runs to lead Triple-A Reno to a 14-8 victory over Tacoma on Saturday at Cheney Stadium. Cron is having an MVP-caliber season with the Aces. The TCU product has 13 homers and 54 RBI, despite missing more than a month because of a strained left oblique. He put up a .316/.376/.600 slash line with eight homers and 30 RBIs in June and been even better over his last 10 games going 17-for-38 (.447) with 9 runs scored, five home runs and 19 RBI. His 30 RBI in June lead the Aces and the entire Pacific Coast League in June. Per RadsStats, Saturday night was Cron's third game of the year with 6+ RBI. He is the first Aces player in franchise history to have multiple games of 6+ RBI in a single season. He leads all of professional baseball in RBI since his first game on May 4.

Joey K. : Relief pitcher Joey Krehbiel has been dominant thus far in 2018, limiting opponents to a .192 average against (3rd-best in the Pacific Coast League). Krehbiel sits second in the league in Fewest Baserunners/9.0 IP Ratio with 10.31. On the season, Krehbiel is (2-1) with a 2.45 ERA in 36.2 innings. He's allowed 10 earned runs and struck out 44 in 29 games.

Show Time : Christian Walker got the start in left field yesterday for the Arizona Diamondbacks and hit in the cleanup spot behind Paul Goldschmidt. The reigning Pacific Coast League MVP went 2-for-5 with a run scored, improving his average to .208 in the Big Leagues this season. Silvino Bracho came on in relief for Zach Godley in the 5th inning. Bracho allowed one run on four hits and struck out two. Bracho currently boasts an ERA of 1.84 this season with Arizona.
