Greenville, S.C. - The Hudson Valley Renegades split a doubleheader with the Greenville Drive on Friday night at Fluor Field. The 'Gades won the opener 7-4, but fell in the nightcap 9-1.

The Renegades took an early 1-0 lead in Game 1 when Aaron Palensky whacked a solo home run to center off Angel Bastardo. The blast was the third in three at-bats for Palensky, who leads the South Atlantic League with six round-trippers this season.

After Greenville tied the game in the bottom of the first on a Blaze Jordan RBI single, Aldenis Sanchez put the Renegades back in front in the top of the second with a sacrifice fly scoring Rafael Flores. Jordan tied the game again in the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run off Zach Messinger.

Hudson Valley went in front for good in the top of the sixth, when Grant Richardson ripped a two-run homer to right, touching off a five-run rally which put the Renegades up 7-2. Sanchez and Spencer Jones collected RBI singles, and Ben Cowles brought in a run with a double to provide the other three tallies.

The Drive plated two unearned runs on an error in the bottom of the sixth, but were unable to get any closer against Jack Neely (2-0) or Nick Paciorek, who earned his second save of the season.

In the nightcap, the Renegades struck first again when Caleb Durbin walked, stole second, and scored on a bloop single to right by Ben Rice. Durbin had a solid game, walking three times in three plate appearances and stealing his league-leading 14th base of the game.

Greenville grabbed the lead in the bottom of the first when Nathan Hickey connected for a two-run home run off Tyrone Yulie. The Drive added another on an RBI single by Eduardo Lopez in the second, and then blew the game open with a five-run third. Lopez highlighted the inning with a grand slam off Yulie (1-1), who allowed eight runs in 2.2 innings in the contest.

The Drive tacked on another in the fifth off Harold Cortijo and were able to cruise to a 9-1 win as the Renegades could only muster the one hit in the game. It was the first time that the Renegades had been one-hit in a game since Game 2 of a doubleheader on May 28, 2022 at Brooklyn. The loss broke a season-long five-game winning streak for Hudson Valley.

The Renegades continue their series with the Drive on Saturday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., with coverage beginning on the Renegades Baseball Network at 6:45. Hudson Valley sends RHP Juan Carela (0-0, 1.35) to the mound, while Greenville counters with RHP Ian Coffey (1-1, 3.38).

Renegades Record:

13-6
