WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. - The Hudson Valley Renegades hung on in the ninth to fight off a late charge from the Bowling Green Hot Rods and win 5-4 on Saturday night at Heritage Financial Park.

Drew Thorpe (9-1) led the way on the mound, striking out 10 while allowing just three runs in seven innings. Over his last 51.0 innings thrown, the New York Yankees' No. 6 prospect has allowed just four earned runs. In picking up his ninth win of the season, Thorpe moved into a tie with Mike Venafro (1995) and Josh Maciejewski (2021) for most wins in a single season by a Renegades pitcher.

Hudson Valley jumped in front in the second with a parade of five singles against Duncan Davitt. Alexander Vargas and Antonio Gómez tallied back-to-back one out singles before Aldenis Sanchez drove home Vargas with a single of his own. Spencer Jones and Ben Cowles followed up with a pair of RBI singles to take a 3-0 lead.

Bowling Green got on the board in the top of the third against Thorpe when Carson Williams doubled home Dru Baker in the third to cut the deficit to 3-1.

The hit parade for Hudson Valley continued in the bottom of the third against Davitt (1-1), with Christopher Familia and Spencer Henson leading off the frame with two singles. Vargas then drove in Familia on an RBI groundout to extend the 'Gades advantage to 4-1.

Baker and Dominic Keegan crushed a pair of solo home runs in the fifth and sixth innings to inch closer and cut the lead to 4-3. The Renegades final run came in the fifth on a throwing error by Blake Robertson on a double play attempt at second base to pad the Renegades lead to 5-3.

After Thorpe departed, Bailey Dees tossed a scoreless eighth before Jack Neely entered for the ninth. Keegan blasted his second home run of the game, a solo blast to left-center to cut the 'Gades lead to one. After the Keegan homer, Kenny Piper singled and Nick Schnell reached on a throwing error to place the tying run in scoring position. Neely retired the next two hitters to earn his fourth save of the season. The Renegades and Hot Rods wrap up their three-game series at Heritage Financial Park on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is slated for 2:05 p.m. with coverage on the Renegades Baseball Network beginning at 1:45 p.m. Hudson Valley will send RHP Juan Carela (2-3, 2.99) to the hill opposite of RHP Ben Peoples (3-5, 3.94) for Bowling Green.

Renegades Record: 48-35, 9-8
