Greenville Drive News Release

The Greenville Drive (9-8, 45-38) took a rain-shortened game against the Hickory Crawdads (14-3, 40-37) 5-0 behind six scoreless innings from starter Angel Bastardo and homers from Roman Anthony and Brainer Bonaci. Heavy rains following the top of the seventh inning created a 32-minute delay that ultimately forced the game to be called. Bastardo picked up his first win of the year from the mound thanks to a stellar effort that included nine strikeouts while he allowed just two hits to the Crawdads.

Just as with the previous night, the Drive raced out to the early lead, this time thanks to an Anthony leadoff home run on the first pitch of the ball game that he crushed to left field. The home run marked his eighth of the year and fifth as the first batter of the game for the Drive.

Bastardo cruised through the first two innings, sending down all six hitters he faced. As the game flipped to the third, Bonaci added to the lead with his solo homer on the second pitch of the at-bat sending a line drive over the left field wall for his ninth homer of the year and increasing the lead to 2-0.

Bastardo relinquished his first hit of the game in the third and would only allow one more in the sixth. As the game moved to the fifth inning the Drive would pile on three more runs. Anthony led off with a double; Allan Castro singled and Bonaci walked to load the bases for Bryan Gonzalez. Gonzalez would ground into a force-out allowing Anthony to score and increase the lead to 3-0. Tyler Miller followed up Gonzalez with a RBI-single to make it 4-0 before a wild pitch later in the inning brought Gonzalez home from third to make it 5-0.

The weather would officially force the early conclusion of the game after the Drive half of the seventh inning, giving Greenville the 5-0 victory.

The Greenville Drive (Boston Red Sox) and Hickory Crawdads (Texas Rangers) return to action tomorrow for the finale of the three-game series with first pitch slated for 2 p.m. The series is currently split, 1-1.
