Fried Shines, Braves Fall Late to BlueClaws

Rome Emperors News Release
ROME, GA - Despite a multi-homer night from Nacho Alvarez Jr and a scoreless outing from 2021 World Champion Max Fried, the Rome Braves would fall to the Jersey Shore BlueClaws on Saturday night by a final score of eight runs to five.
A rehabbing Max Fried would get the starting nod from Angel Flores. This would be Fried's second rehab start en route back to the big leagues after suffering a forearm injury at the beginning of the season.
Fried last played for the Rome Braves in September of 2016 when he turned in seven innings of one run ball in the deciding game of the South Atlantic League Championship Series. Fried would face the same BlueClaws in his return to the River City on Saturday evening.
Fried would look sharp, hurling three innings of shutout ball. The lefty would only surrender two hits, while striking out three and issuing zero walks.
The 2022 National League All-Star would get some early run support thanks to Nacho Alvarez Jr's fifth home run of the year. The shortstop would lift a ball over the left-center field wall to put the Braves on the board first in the home half of the game's opening frame.
Alvarez Jr would homer again in the bottom of the third, giving Rome a three run to none lead.
Jose Montilla and Patrick Halligan would keep the BlueClaws at bay over four and two thirds of an inning before Jersey Shore would jump back out to tie the game.
Keshawn Ogans and Bryson Horne would add some late inning heroics with back-to-back home runs that gave the lead back to the Braves, but the BlueClaws would attack Peyton Williams for five runs in the top of the ninth.
The late rally would be enough to give Jersey Shore a eight run to five win over the Braves on Saturday evening, giving the 'Claws their forty-second win of 2023. Rome will fall to thirty-eight and forty-five on the year.
The Braves and BlueClaws will tee it up for a Sunday rubber match tomorrow, with a 1:00pm first pitch.
