Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

Fishkill, NY --- The Hudson Valley Renegades broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the sixth inning and went on to beat the visiting New Jersey Cardinals 4-2 tonight at Dutchess Stadium. The few hardy souls who remained in the ballpark following a 1 hour, 49 minute rain delay to begin the night saw the 'Gades improve to 4-0 against New Jersey at home. Renegades starter Jarrod Farrell (2-1, 3.51) scattered one run on two hits and a walk while striking out four in six innings to earn the victory. Farrell had a perfect game through four innings that ended when DH Kainoa Obrey singled to lead off the fifth. Rob Ellis pitched the last three innings to earn his first save of the year. He gave up one run on three hits while fanning three. New Jersey starting pitcher Erik Drown (2-2, 3.95) gave up three runs (one earned) on two hits and five walks in five innings pitched to take the loss. He struck out six.

The Renegades struck first on 3B Kris Dufner's RBI single in the third inning that scored 2B Fernando Puebla. The Cardinals tied the score in the fifth on an RBI single by C Matt Pagnozzi, but the 'Gades took the lead for good in the sixth inning on RBI groundouts off the bats of C Chino Ayala and LF Josh Kendrick. DH John Jaso went two for three with a run scored and a stolen base. SS Aneudi Cuevas hit his third triple of the season.

Tonight was Survivor Night at Dutchess Stadium, sponsored by Star 93.3 and Sabrett Hot Dogs. Nine contestants took part in a competition based on the hit reality TV show Survivor. Each inning, the players faced off in such events as slalom sack races, Renegades trivia, and dance contests. One competitor was voted off by the judges (members of the media and Renegades staff) each inning until the crowd picked one of the remaining two people to win the grand prize, a Royal Caribbean cruise.

The Renegades and Cardinals continue their three-game series tomorrow night at Skylands Park in Augusta, N.J. Tom Blair (1-2, 3.94) pitches for New Jersey; Scott Vandermeer (2-2, 3.38) takes the mound for Hudson Valley. On Sunday, July 20, the two teams conclude the series back at Dutchess Stadium on Luggage Tag Night, sponsored by Q92. First pitch on Sunday is scheduled for 5:11 p.m.
