Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
Rome, Ga. - The Hudson Valley Renegades scored twice in the top of the 10th inning to hang on and defeat the Rome Braves 3-2 in extra innings on Saturday evening at AdventHealth Stadium. The Renegades are now 4-1 to start their current 12-game road trip.
Juan Carela turned in his best start as a Renegade on Saturday. The right-hander threw 5.2 innings of no-hit ball, striking out eight and walking three before giving way to Carlos Gomez. In his last two starts, Carela has thrown 10.0 shutout innings while striking out 17 batters and yielding two hits.
The Renegades broke through in the top of the seventh, when Anthony Garcia walked and Antonio Gomez singled to put runners on first and second with no outs. After a wild pitch advanced the runners to second and third, Aldenis Sanchez lined a single to left to plate Garcia and give Hudson Valley a 1-0.
With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Bryson Horne singled to right past a diving Ben Cowles to break up the no-hitter. Kadon Morton and Cory Acton followed with singles to drive in Horne and tie the game at 1-1. The next batter, Kevin Kilpatrick lifted a fly ball to shallow right, which was caught by Garcia, who then threw home to nab Morton at the plate for an inning-ending double play.
Both Hudson Valley and Rome threatened in the coming frames, but neither team was able to push across a run, sending the game into extras.
In the top of the 10th inning, Spencer Jones lifted a sacrifice fly to centerfield off Tyler Owens (0-1) to score Sanchez to put the Renegades in front 2-1. Alexander Vargas then tripled and scored on a Caleb Durbin RBI single to run the advantage to 3-1.
Nick Paciorek allowed the automatic runner to score in the bottom of the 10th, but retired all three batters he faced to close out the 3-2 victory and earn his first save of the season.
POSTGAME NOTES: Antonio Gomez finished 1-for-3 with a walk to extend his hitting streak to nine games, tied with T.J. Rumfield for the longest hitting streak by a Renegade in the last two seasons... This was the first extra-inning win for Hudson Valley since August 21, 2022 when they defeated the Brooklyn Cyclones 9-3 in 10 innings at Maimonides Park.
The Renegades and Braves complete their series on Sunday afternoon at AdventHealth Stadium. RHP Drew Thorpe (0-0, 4.22) takes the ball for Hudson Valley, while Rome answers with RHP Luis Vargas (0-1, 12.71) to the mound. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m., with coverage on the Renegades Baseball Network beginning at 12:45.
