Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
Wappingers Falls, N.Y. - Two big innings offensively and another stellar bullpen performance propelled the Hudson Valley Renegades over the Jersey Shore BlueClaws 8-5 on Tuesday night at Heritage Financial Park. The win snapped an 11-game win streak for Jersey Shore, the longest in the minors this season.
Otto Kemp hit his first home run of the season in the top of the first inning to give the BlueClaws an early 1-0 lead. But in the bottom of the first, the Renegades immediately responded as Jace Avina doubled and Jesus Rodriguez drove him home with an RBI single.
Justin Crawford began the fourth with a double, and Kemp singled to advance Crawford to third. Bryan Rincon reached on a fielder's choice groundout scoring Crawford, and then stole second. Felix Reyes then doubled in Rincon, and William Bergolla followed that up with a single to bring home Reyes, putting the BlueClaws ahead 4-1.
The Renegades responded immediately with three runs of their own in the fourth, with Rodriguez leading off the frame with a single. Omar Martinez doubled to put runners at second and third, Josh Moylan walked to load the bases. Rafael Flores scored Martinez with a sacrifice fly, and Kiko Romero knocked in Martinez and Moylan with a clutch two-run single.
The Renegades took the lead for the first time in the bottom of the sixth when Mason Ronan (0-1) walked Martinez, Moylan and Flores to load the bases with no outs. Nelson Medina singled to score Martinez and Moylan, and a Roc Riggio single scored Rafael Flores. Avina lifted a sacrifice fly to drive in Medina, and put the Renegades ahead for good with an 8-4 lead.
Jersey Shore got a run back in the seventh inning, after Erick Brito brought in William Bergolla from first base with a triple off Hueston Morrill (1-1). Cole Ayers relieved Morrill later in the inning and fired 2.1 perfect innings with four strikeouts to close out the win and earn his second save of the season.
POSTGAME NOTES: Rodriguez provided his thirteenth multi-hit game for the Renegades, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored... Omar Martinez was also on base three times, with a double, two walks, and two runs scored... Morrill and Ayers combined to allow one run over 4.0 innings, and the Renegades bullpen has allowed just one run across 9.1 innings in their last two games.
