Renegades Fall 9-5 in Lowell against Spinners

Lowell, MA - The Hudson Valley Renegades lost 9-5 against the Lowell Spinners on Saturday evening, dropping to 29-13 in 2014. In a contest that featured a combined 19 hits and 14 runs, Lowell captured the final game of a three-game series with the victory. Hudson Valley has played 10 out of their last 11 games on the road, and went 6-5 in that span. They return home Sunday for three games against the Vermont Lake Monsters at Dutchess Stadium.

The Spinners jumped on the board early with eight runs in the bottom of the first inning, putting the Renegades in a large hole the rest of the way. Hudson Valley responded with three runs in the fourth inning and two in the sixth, but eventually fell short with their comeback efforts. Lowell would score nine runs on 11 hits, en route to their 19 th victory this season.

Jose Alonzo started the game on the hill for Hudson Valley, making the first New York-Penn League start of his career. He was followed by a trio of relievers as Brian Miller, Eli Echarry and Darren Fischer combined for 7.1 innings in relief. All three pitched well out of the bullpen, striking out a combined six batters and giving up just one run.

At the plate, Hudson Valley put together eight hits and five runs in another solid offensive outing. Bralin Jackson led the charge going 3-4, with a double, a triple and two runs scored. With the three-hit performance he brings his batting average up to .289, and has ten hits in his last six games with five doubles. Hunter Lockwood drove in three of his teams five runs in the contest, going 1-4 with a double. His 32 runs batted in this season are second in the New York-Penn League. Jace Conrad provided the power for his team, going 2-4 with a homer and 2 RBI's. His home run came in the fourth inning and is his first of the season.

With a Staten Island win tonight, Hudson Valley now stands 7.5 games ahead of them in first place of the McNamara Division. With a three-game home stand begging on Sunday, the Renegades look to build on their league-leading 16-3 home record. Hudson Valley is third in the league in best road record, and they are one of just three teams to reach thirteen road victories this season.

Notes: Hunter Lockwood is one of two players to drive in more than 30 runs this season. His 152 at-bats are more than anybody else in the league, and his 29 runs scored are the second highest total. Bralin Jackson has hit safely in five of his last six games and in that span he's picked up three multi-hit games. He is currently tied for third in stolen bases in the NYPL, along with Jace Conrad. Coty Blanchard leads everybody with 15 stolen bases on the campaign.
