Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

Lakewood, N.J. - The Hudson Valley Renegades blasted three home runs and hung on for a 5-4 victory over the Jersey Shore BlueClaws on Thursday night at ShoreTown Ballpark. The win extended the Renegades' win streak to a season-long six in a row.

The Renegades took the lead in the top of the second inning after back-to-back singles by Marcos Cabrera and Luis Santos set up Ben Cowles to ground an RBI single through the left side of the infield off Gunner Mayer to put Hudson Valley in front 1-0.

Jersey Shore responded with two runs in the bottom of the second against Joel Valdez. After loading the bases with no outs, two run-scoring groundouts put the BlueClaws in front 2-1. Valdez (2-4) recovered after that to set a new career high by throwing 6.1 innings, allowing just two runs on three hits while walking four and striking out two.

Grant Richardson blasted a solo home run to lead off the top of the fourth against Wesley Moore to tie the game at 2-2. It was Richardson's seventh round tripper of the season, and the first that the lefty batter hit off a left-handed pitcher this year.

In the top of the fifth, Hudson Valley re-gained the lead on a solo home run by Rafael Flores, a titanic blast clearing a 20-foot wall in deep left-center off Moore (0-1) to give the Renegades a 3-2 advantage. The blast was Flores' second home run of the season, and his first since May 11 at Aberdeen.

The Renegades tacked on two more in the eighth off Jordi Martinez on a solo home run from Marcos Cabrera and an RBI double by Cowles to take a 5-2 lead. Cowles finished the night 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs, a walk and a stolen base.

Jack Neely threw 1.2 perfect innings of relief, striking out three. Indigo Diaz allowed a two-run home run to Rixon Wingrove in the bottom of the ninth, but held on to record his first save of the season.

Hudson Valley and Jersey Shore continue their series on Friday night at ShoreTown Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., with pregame coverage on the Renegades Baseball Network beginning at 6:45. RHP Zach Messinger (1-5, 2.98) takes the mound for the Renegades, while the BlueClaws have not announced a starter.

Renegades Record: 45-33, 6-6
